Standard wheel set at 1770g? That's pretty good. I'd agree, there isn't much point upgrading those. I've heard that Giant's off the shelf wheels are meant to be pretty good these days.
I'm always looking at new bikes and budgeting in a new wheel set. Yours does seem to be decent, just not sure I could stretch to £2300 for a new bike. Also, I'm a SRAM fan and there isn't much to choose from if you like SRAM shifting Probably going to end up buying a Spesh Tarmac or Giant Propoel Advanced selling most of it on Ebay apart from the frame!
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the wheels on the bike, to be fair. They're good and tight too, and I haven't noticed any issues with 'flex' or owt like that.I'm always looking at new bikes and budgeting in a new wheel set. Like I said, I'd been budgeting for a wheel upgrade while looking at new bikes, so the extra I spent on the bike ended up being less than what I would have needed to find for the new wheels. That, plus the huge pile of goodies, including helmet, shoes and pedals which I got with the bike were effectively free with the shop's "Podium Points" scheme (Pedal On, Tadley, btw).
Not a great time to be a SRAM fan with the limited choices on the market right now. I'm a confirmed Shimano fan boy, so spoiled for choice by comparison, it would seem.
As for stretching to £2,300? I wouldn't have, given the choice. There's no way I'm doing justice to the Emonda right now, and I'd have kept my £1200 Merida for another 4 years at least. The budget for the new bike came courtesy of LV (insurance) who foolishly agreed to sell motor insurance cover to the inattentive driver of the van which flattened me last year. It was my treat for having to endure the pain of a broken shoulder blade, and I reckon I deserved it...

Tell more. I was most impressed with the Pro SL I briefly rode at Bike London. Which Rose have you gone for?
It's the Pro DX Cross 2000. I've just got it out of the box and done the final fitting of the bars/seat/pedals etc and it's a really lovely bike at a very good price.Have i mentioned i'm off to Rose bike town Munich in October ?
Bike looks nice dude.

ST5700-105 left lever for £35.00 at Planet X
I bought a right lever a few months ago for £39.99 so it would be rude not to buy the left one at this price
Also bought a Dura Ace 9000 11 speed chain from the same outlet for £19.99
Crikey! The prices really are tumbling on 10 speed now. Great price for the DA chain. I'm quite tempted to go and see if they have any left. I don't even have a 11 speed bike, but next road bike will be 11 speed and it will probabaly be a custom build, so I shall need a chain eventually. I bought a new GP4S tyre today after the current one decided to blow a sidewall. Conveniently it managed to explode deep in the Chilterns and a good 7 miles from the nearest bike shop but one of these saved me and held it firm until I could get there.
I bought them a year ago and they've sat in the bottom of my tool pack ever since. I can now highly recommend them.

Took a trip down to the Rapha Archive store today, some decent prices to be fair and a big stock holding, more than London tbh!
Hard shells £130
Pro team bibs £100
Grand tour shoes £150
Pro team jersey £100
Etc
Yes they were a little light on the normal sizes, ie medium and large but they did have one or two of most things versus four or five xs, s, xl, xxl.
I came away with a mere two bidons for £5 each and a free cap.

I've laid the groundwork for a trip, she thinks it will be a nice day out if we can leave the kids with the outlaws for a day. (I might not have mentioned Rapha.) Thanks for the details though.Hard shells £130

I will say the rest of the 'designer village' is pants, it's just a handful of interlinking shops from a load of brands I don't recognise bar Paul Smith and Jack Wills, it's not a day out. Although if like my missus she likes handbags she may like the Mulberry shop which is just up the hill a minutes walk away.
