Other than postage, did you save anything compared to buying it online? Did you pay in £ or Euros? Was it more about visiting the factory and making sure you got the right size?
Yes, I saved about £400. I live in Norwich and just sat down and did the maths and it was a no-brainer to me. I bought a few other things and in the UK it would have been about £3,400 all in. I paid £2,850 for the bike and extras and about £150 on travel. I saved money by getting a boat in the middle of the night and trying to drive at a sensible pace there and back. I wasn't really that sentimental about visiting the factory, but it is a great set up there. I didn't have much time to look around due to arriving an hour late (traffic jams) and then having to get back for the 4pm ferry.

All in all it's worth doing, but plan on taking your time and taking a co-driver, I'm still recovering this morning....

One other thing I should add, I got stopped by customs on the way back in and given the third degree about where I'd been and what I had been upto. I really thought at one point I was going to get asked to pay the VAT on the bike!! (I could be wrong on that, but I'm pretty sure you should pay VAT on items bought into the UK.) Just something else to consider.....

Not whilst we're still part of the EU.

As long as the item was bought in the EU, there're no additional duties or VAT levied on intra-border movements.

Something On of the many things the UKIP propaganda machine won't be telling you ahead of the referendum.

Dedacciai has arrived, but I won't have time now to build it today as work beckons

I feel bad at fitting 105 to this as it's a much better frame than I could have wished for, I was only looking for something cheap and cheerful to use up some of the 'extra parts' that are lying around...So tempting to upgrade...

Dare I ask how much you paid for it, and where from? It looks lovely!

(I have an Ultegra 10-speed group and other bits and bobs floating around in need of a new home)

Was that a £400 saving on the advertised website price? I can see its a CF SLX but which model is it?

Looks like the 8.0 Di, which is timely, as I can't really decide if I want that one, or the Aeroad, which is about £100 more for a very similar spec.

Does it have wonky continental brakes, or are they UK spec?

My issue is that I would probably burn £400 of fuel driving over for it... smile

New bike time... Got the 2am Dovert to Dunkirk ferry, got to Koblenz at 11am after getting stuck in two traffic jams. Managed to get back for the 6pm ferry back to the uk and my final drive back to Norwich. I rolled in the front door at 10.45 having driven 950 miles in just under 24 hours on my own after my co-driver decided he couldn't make it!! I was in the bike shop yesterday morning having a bike fit, so I'm just getting changed to go out for my first ride on it. bounce

Is that an aero half-disc rear wheel? Sort it out wink

Was just cheaper just because of the exchange rate, not paying shipping costs etc.?

The actual saving for the bike and extras was almost £600. Taking into account the ferry, fuel and snacks along the way makes the saving about £400. (I can't be bothered to work out exactly how much the saving was, being in the 100's is good enough for me! beer

Absolutely spot on, it is the 8.0 Di. I had the same dilemma as you. (Not a bad one really!!) I chose this as I have dodgy shoulders and I decided that being on a bike that is low down would do me no favours in the long run. Having now had it a few days and ridden about 100 miles on it, I am absolutely chuffed with it. Its far stiffer than what I'm used to and very responsive, it just encourages you to attack everywhere!! The Di2 is faultless too. How did I ever do without it??

In the notes I asked them to seat the brakes up for the UK, they confirmed they had done it when they emailed me to tell me it was ready.

I'm happy as it is for the time being thanks, maybe I'll remove it soon. tongue out

Exchange rate mainly, you do save a bit on shipping costs, but I think that would have been about £33 for delivery and £16 for the box. So thats £50 I wouldn't have spent. I also bought a VCLS seatpost, pedals, stand, cages and bottles, replacement brake pads and a hanger. If I need any spares from them I'll probably get them sent to my sister-in-laws house in Germany and get one of the family to bring them home when they're over there. There are definitely savings to be made if you can buy in Euros.

Cheers

Canyon set their GBP prices once a year, and Sterling has recovered a bit since they did. The rate was around 1.2 back then but now it's about 1.4

Dedacciai? Very nice, I keep looking at their Supercross framesets, but the price puts me off...

Why H+Son rims? They seem to be very heavy for their sizes.

Back on topic, I've bought enough DT Swiss Competition spokes to build five wheels, there's some industrial action at work on Monday, so I'm going to be sat around for the shift, might as well do a bit of scotching.

Radha Climber's Jersey. Groomed my face fuzz last night and took it out for a test ride this afternoon, in black and white, making all the requisite faces, naturally. It's a very nice thing. Very open mesh at the front (a bit see-through) and very very light in the pockets (I can't stand thick material in the pockets!). Little tabs at the bottom of the zip make it easy to find when you need to do it back up. Favourite feature is the little flap of 'glasses wipe' material in the right pocket which makes for a great way to protect your mobile from moisture. Not the cheapest jersey I own but a very useful addition to the wardrobe for the warmest days.
