They look great but I can hear them creaking under my weight.

Each to their own but I'm not a fan of Rolf's paired spoke system.

Just a few bits today...

H Plus Son on DT240 with CX Ray spokes
Michelin air comp tubes
Ti / carbon skewers
Dura Ace cassette
Swiss stop pads

Presents to myself for being back on the bike the last few weeks following my femur break on January.
Nice wheels! I built some up with Novatec hubs and they've been great. I can really recommend running them tubeless though as they seem to ride so much better

I have never had any before, will let you know what they are like when they have a few miles on them!

A set of Shimano M520s for my new roadie and a crank puller while I was in. I will fix the creaky BB on my hardtail.

Hang Rule 34! I barely have two serviceable pairs of normal shoes, I'm hardly going to justify two pairs of dedicated cycling shoes! Mind you, I say that..

Something tells me that previous owner was a) a triathlete and b) the frame was a little too big for him/her.

Hope you are tall !

Not a problem. I have plenty of that. I also have around 100kgs, lots of hills around me, and "hero gearing on that bike, with the lowest gear a F42 -> R24. yikes

New frame to replace the existing. One size smaller and a different colour. Just opened the box and there's a slight chip underneath the chainstay. Picture sent to Wiggle, awaiting outcome.

The other day I got some Sportful Super Total Comfort Bib Shorts in my quest for ultimate bum comfort and they're by quite a long way the best shorts I've had!

Though with an rrp of £160 I should hope they're good. Thoroughly recommended! Just did 41 miles on them and they feel fantastic

OK, so the Rolf Prima ARES 4 wheels arrived today and I am just back from the first 90 minute ride with them.

I am absolutely staggered by how good they are. So much so that I need to put some context around my praise.

My road bike is old - 2003 / 2004 and hasn't had any new components since it was new. It hasn't needed any, due to lack of use. I didn't cycle much from 2007 through to 2012. 2012 I rode fixed all the time. 2013 I didn't cycle much. 2014 I rode fixed all the time and it is only this year, from about March, that I dug the road bike out, put new tyres and bar tape on it and used it. The bike is a Colnago C40 with Campag Record 10 speed from that era and, until today, it had Mavic Kysirium wheels from that era. It is a nice bike and is a better bike than my fitness warrants. Adding these wheels has simply widened the gap between the bike and its rider!

I don't race. I don't do massive epic rides. But I do manage to clock up a couple of hundred miles each week at this time of year, mostly in 30 - 60 mile rides around circuits of differing natures in my part of Yorkshire.

Anyway, back to the Rolfs. Brilliant build quality obvious immediately out of the box. Lightweight - not many! Changing from the Kysiriums has taken over 800g off the weight of the bike.

Tyres. I ummed and ached about tyres. First thought was Veloflex Record. Second thought was Tufo C Elite Jet 160. Third thought - and the ones I went with - Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX. I went with these, in 23 section, as they are a nice tyre anyway, but offer a little bit more protection to the (expensive) carbon rims.

A bit of work done with changing brake pads, fitting tyres and installing the wheels and then off I went. From the first turn of the wheel there was a noticeable difference to the bike. Even the freewheel noise sounded sweeter! This responsiveness of the bike to accelerations - from junctions and out of corners for instance - was so much better than I was expecting (and I had high expectations I thought). The stability in the wind was brilliant, the predictability around corners was spot on. Absorption of road bumps was great and it felt as though the efficiency of power transmission to the road was far higher. I don't have a computer or power meter on my bike, so I have no stats to verify the difference. But there is no doubt in my mind at all that this is the most significant upgrade I have ever known on a bike.

Today's route was very flat. Tomorrow's route has a pretty decent climb and descent on it and I am excited to see what difference the wheels make to that.

I can't yet comment on durability of course, but I will comment again when they have a couple of thousand miles on them.

You have all heard that investing in wheels gives the best return, better than any other component. I would say that aside from going from riding platform pedals with no clips / straps in trainers to riding clipless pedals with decent cycling shoes, there is no better place to start spending!

A couple of pics of the old steed with its new wheels!

Open Corsas are lovely tyres to ride on, I ran some for one summer, but had to give them up due to way too many punctures. Hope you have more luck!

Just got:

Degreasant - bike has never looked really clean so looking forward to using
Chain cleaner kit
5 continental inner tunes
1 Continental 4000s
Tyre levers and puncture repair kit
Mini pump
Shimano Ultrgra wheels

To go on a trek madone. Never upgraded anything since getting it so I'm hoping I'll feel the improvement from the wheels. First impressions were that they look great but not sure how much lighter they are than the original Bontrager wheels but I think the pair are probably 300 - 400g lighter from what I've read. I was in two minds as to paying more but as they were reduced from £300+ And so many people giving good reviews that I couldn't really find anything that looked better until I was paying over £400. So for half the price I decided to get the Ultrgras.

Taking it for a service tomorrow where I particularly want all the gears indexing and a change from white (grubby) bar tape to black.

After making my 6 month goal of 1,000km I've treated myself to some bling new pedals:
They arved this morning, but pins had been fitted in most of the holes on one side of one pedal, including the non threaded holes. It looks like someone has ballsed them up and returned them, then CRC sent them out to me. They are being good about replacing them though, just annoying as I was looking forward to using them this weekend.

Could be worse, my pair (which I fitted on Tuesday) had a left hand pedal thread on the right hand pedal so when I put it on it stripped the race face crank thread.

LBS rang Hope and they've had the pedals and the RF crank to fix. Hopefully they do otherwise that wrong thread has cost me a crank.

Currently running a deore crank with the old Nukeproof electrons so I can at least ride it.

The C40 is one of my all time fave bikes, I was lent this little beauty when my CX-1 had to go back to Italy and would have happily kept it over mine! Fantastic ride, responsive, handled amazingly well and looked beautiful! I have the first option on this one if the owner ever decides to sell it;

Totally agree, fantastic ride and handling (but dry day summer tyres only) - I stopped using them when one exploded on my on a perfect debris free road surface for no apparent reason!

Yikes, you expect better from Hope! I hope they get it sorted. Chainreaction seem to be pretty good about swapping mine out.
