On a ride the other day somebody's free hub was so loud. Sounded quite good but way louder than normal? Why is this?and what type might it have been?!?

Hope freehubs are very loud. I think Chris King make a racket too.

The ones on my Flo wheels are too. No need for a bell, just pedal backwards a little... biggrin

Quarq Elsa RS and some kind of BB.

Those cranks look short, what length are they? I'm still being told 3 weeks for mine, which is a bit annoying!!! (although had a big crash this week and not really feeling in a bike mood at the moment).

Those are 165mm and had to be ordered. I think they may even do 160mm. My wife is about 5 foot.

6 pawl upgrade to DT240 makes a racket too, sounds like a rattle snake caught in the wheel.

The other day I got some Sportful Super Total Comfort Bib Shorts in my quest for ultimate bum comfort and they're by quite a long way the best shorts I've had!

Though with an rrp of £160 I should hope they're good. Thoroughly recommended! Just did 41 miles on them and they feel fantastic
I'm considering buying some of these - are you still happy with them please?

Thanks

I used them on a 70.4 mile ride Sunday, which took 4:06 and I had no saddle soreness at all. None.

Quite easily the best shorts I've had. The next best are probably my castelli-garmin inferno shorts but the Chamois isn't quite as nice, although the material of the shorts on the castelli-garmin ones are a bit nicer I think.

If you want a more cushioned pad, get them. I'd recommend trying one size up from normal clothing fit though, I am always on the small side and through Wiggle I was recommended extra small, I ordered small and I wouldn't want them any tighter for fear of my jewels being squeezed a bit much!

But overall I'm very happy.... So much so that I've actually ordered a 2nd pair. Nothing else comes close on a long ride.

I hope you like them.

Put it this way.... I am not sure whether I'd have bought them for the £144 most places sell them at prior to having worn them. I have a few other pairs (which need replacing now) and I was pretty happy with them. I got these a little under £100 so decided to give them a go.

Now, I'd be happy to pay £144 for them. The Chamois is the best I've personally come across, and I've had around 6-7 pairs of shorts and bib tights with different Chamois paddings in them and this is the only one I've tried where after 70 miles I get literally no saddle soreness. None.

I recently bought a selle smp stratos saddle as I've always suffered with chafing and numbness in the nether regions on longer rides. The selle saddle has significantly improved both of those (it's actually less comfortable for the 1st 10 miles or so but then as the miles go by it really comes into its own) and now I have those super total comfort bib shorts I think I've found my perfect combination.

I'd be surprised if you don't like them.

Is there a "go to" budget bike for a complete novice who hasn't ridden a bike since his teens ?

Under £500, really just for travelling back and forth a few miles each day.. on road.

Wouldn't know where to start !

B'Twin Tribans usually get the nod. I started with a Triban 300 and would recommend them at that price. They're also selling off outgoing models so you could get even better value if they still have your size.

Awesome, Bikes seem relatively cheap from what I remember.

Gonna sound like a complete novice, but will a road bike take an occasional bump up kerbs and cut through few meters of grass etc, or should I look at mountain bike ?
