It's going to be an expensive day...
After lots of emails to Dom, who's a great bloke to deal with, I've decided to build up my new bike.
Oh, you would go and post that, wouldn't you... I've spent ages procrasinating about what disc frame (or complete bike) to purchase and I have got it down to either the Mason Definition Frameset, the Genesis Datum Frameset, or the Cannondale CAAD12 105 disc. I'd be aiming for a complete build price of about £1,500 which would have to see some component re-use from my current bike unless I went for the 'Dale. Although it looks like the 'Dale comes with full 105 hydraulic groupset which puts it at somewhere approaching bargain territory. I'll await and see what the tyre clearance is on it before deciding fully. If it's 28mm without guards, or 25mm with, then it might get the go ahead. If not, then some clever purchasing (read sneaky) and I might settle with the Mason home build...After lots of emails to Dom, who's a great bloke to deal with, I've decided to build up my new bike.

I know the Definition clearance is 28 with guards and 32 without. Someone somewhere was talking about a bigger CX tyre fitting but if I was that keen on racing in CX i'd use my hardtail rather than risk trashing this. It's currently at £2300 with Hydraulic Di and Hunt wheels which I think is semi sensible? I haven't been ultra careful with the options and justified the build as I had a seat post in the garage If I had stuck to 105 that would have saved £600 and using Kinesis wheels another £200..that'd be your £1500
Am I helping
Oh yes Yonex... helping LOADS! Most importantly, which colour did you go for? Blue seems v.popular which makes me think I'd go Black...
I'm awaiting price and reviews of the Tiagra 4700 before I make any decisions. I am currently riding about 10,000km a year and so the cost savings involved with running 10 speed will mount up as replacements are less, and I have heard that 10 speed is more durable. (*anyone, is this fact or fiction? If I could get 9 speed shifters with under bar tape cables, I'd stick with that*)

I do about that mileage and haven't seen much wear on my 10 speed. I do strip and clean the chain every other week in paraffin and stay on top of the shift setup. Apart from that it gets loads of abuse. There are always s/h cassettes around and £20 KMC chains seem to last 6-7000km. I have also found 28c 4 Seasons to be capable of 8000km.
I've gone with blue as it reminded me of my dads F.H.Scott in that colour...unfortunately that was thrown in the skip
Obviously, what I meant but didn't actually seem to say... is that 10speed is more durable than 11 speed, and 9 speed more so than 10 speed potentially.
Either way, the fact that you can buy a 105 Groupset (bin the rim brakes) for less than £300 makes it an option probably not worth avoiding unless the new Tiagra is more like £200 and also excellent.
I think from this point on, all talk and especially photos of all Mason bikes should therefore be banned. Otherwise we will see a lot of new builds featuring in the forthcoming pages. Chapeau Dom, your bikes are EPIC.

That is a beautiful looking bike. I've been trying to ignore them since reading the review on road.ccI do about that mileage and haven't seen much wear on my 10 speed. I've not seen it (4700) offered for less than £260 yet and with 105 only £40 more it's not worth the saving imo.Schmy said:

A 70mm stem for the Emonda, took it for a quick spin up the road and back - feels spot on! The first two weeks/325kms were awesome but I think this is the cherry on top!
(planning a stem cut by the supplying LBS when it goes in for it's 6 week check-over)

Also a fibre flare, been looking for a decent rear light for a while, spotted this on line the other night and bought it on impulse tonight from the LBS!

Tbh, I don't intend riding the Trek at night but it was a little dusky when I tried the new stem so it was a great excuse to test the flare too -

What's the fit of the trade team jersey like compared to the club jersey?
Snug.I have a club jersey and a pro team jersey, XL and XXL respectively.
Definitely keeping though; it's lovely!
Interesting that Rapha have gone back to having a sale on the website; maybe the outlet store isn't selling as much as they hoped?

I think they'll shift the bulk of the old lines on the main site, and lob the odds and sods left over to the outlet store. That was my thinking anyway. I really need to take a look at the outlet store, it's only a couple of hours ride from here.

we have loads of highly polished tiles at work, I'm not going to walk even a foot in these, and need to get from the often wet car park ramp to the bike rack to the locker room when I get to work, thats a good 50 meters, and I'm not letting my socks only feet touch that floor.
just to dangerous.
Sound like you tried road/race shoes, not MTB/commuter ones?just to dangerous.
I could quite happily walk hundreds of metres on my MTB shoes, the 'sole' around the cleat protrudes by a few mm meaning you only get the occasional graunch from a small stone etc. on the ground but on a smooth surface the cleat doesn't even touch the floor.
