After trying on a few pairs (harder than it would at first appear when even places like Evans only have a few suitable pairs in stock to try) I settled on a pair of Louis Garneau LS-100 which fit me superbly. Wanted a boa closure as I find ratchets a bit crude and bulky when using overshoes. Didn't want to spend £300 on Sidis either!
I have these in white and they're very good and quite stiff! jamiebae said:
Mine arrived yesterday, first impressions are that they seem very good for the money and fit me nicely too. They seem to size up very similar to Shimano shoes and the closure system is much nicer than the ratchets you see on most shoes at this price point.
Absolutely agree. Did a quick spin last night and they feel great. The boa is superb, so much better than velcro or ratchets as you say.I'd also concur about the sizing. My Shimanos are EU 47 and after about 2,000 miles I've come to the conclusion they are slightly too wide across the toe area. The lower velcro strap 'bottoms out' and prevents it being pulled tighter though.
The Garneaus at 46 fit like a glove. I'm a UK 10.5-11 in most shoes.
The biggest surprise is that I weighed them against my old setup. The LS100s, standard Keos and cleats are a frankly astonishing 500g lighter than M088s, M520s and cleats.
I expected them to be lighter but not by half a kilo!

That's a decent weight saving there! I've gone from Shimano R088 and some Wiggle own brand SPD SL pedals to the Garneaus and Speedplay Zeros so there'll be a bit of weight saving there but not as much. The 2 bolt MTB shoes tend to be really heavy and the pedals are too as the fixing mechanism is very strong and all made of steel.I'd also concur about the sizing. Went into Evans yesterday and bought an 11-32 Ultegra cassette to replace my 11-28, asked the guy in the shop if I would need to change the rear Mech....."No that will be alright mate" but I had a nagging doubt. Just found out I also need a GS long cage mech.....Ggggrrrrrr. Cancel my Evans order and order all the required parts from Bike-Discount.de at a considerable saving instead and added in some tasty Tune cages and bottles, WIN.
Topeak Aero Wedge saddle bag for me today - needed a touch more room for the multitool and a couple of emergency/get me home gels. Can't get the fixing on, gave up after 5 minutes - unless I'm doing something wrong it doesn't seem wide enough for the rails on the standard CAAD8 saddle. Will have another play during daylight when I can see properly what I'm doing, but does anyone know if the F33 is the next size?

a medium cage will do it
SS? I heard you can end up with chain, mech, cassette, real wheel interface issues and a walk home.http://bike.shimano.com/content/sac-bike/en/home/c...
My project for the summer is converting my old 90s "racer" into a flat-bar commuter bike. So yesterday I ordered:
Stainless steel flat bar handlebars
Stainless steel brake levers
Brake cables and housing
Handlebar grips
Gear cables
I'm also bidding on a nice set of steel front forks, mine were a rush buy after a crash and are a lovely mix of chrome and rust.

Chamois cream, cycling socks, Cateye Light Bracket and some hydration tablets.
It will be the first time I have ever used Hydration tablets. I've only ever had squash or lucozade in my water bottles. I figured I need to give the tabs a try to see if they do anything for me.
Went with Wiggle's own brand of tabs. I have lots of their other stuff, so I thought I'd give them a go.
Also got a cheap Garmin mount on order. Chinese special for £4 delivered Same product from the UK is £7. New bike is being ordered next month and that is costing a lot, so got to save a bit here and there on the accessories.
A pair of Michelin Pro4 Endurance tyres arrived last week from CRC. First time I have ever used 25mm tyres and they look much bigger than the 23mm Gatorskins that I have on my current bike. It will be the first time that I have strayed from Continental for tyres. Wanted to save a bit of money and the GP4000S was coming in £35 each and the Pro4s were £21 each (Special offer). Always used Gatorskins in the past and ride is a litte harsh, so I thought I'd try Michelins instead. The endurance name suggests a decent level of puncture protection, so fingers crossed they work out ok.
Still got bottle cages and maybe a speed/cadence sensor if I can't get my spare one to work properly...
Its never just the cost of the bike is it
