The "what bike bits have you just bought" thread
Discussion
Planet X seem to have a sale on (unusual since they're the DFS of the cycling world.)
However, among the normal stuff not really discounted much I found these two gems, which will see me through another couple of years of commuting, at £13 a pair, that's pretty good value I think:
3/4 Length Bibs:

Regular Bibs:

Thanks for sharing that, just got myself some 3/4 bibs and a tri suit, extremely cheap so if its cr*p it doesnt really matter. What is the quality usually like from planet X?However, among the normal stuff not really discounted much I found these two gems, which will see me through another couple of years of commuting, at £13 a pair, that's pretty good value I think:

Some of the things I've had can be a bit variable, their merino socks haven't really lasted that well, but I live in a merino jumper from them in the winter, and have for a few winters now.I've not been very lucky with their gloves, but friends use these bibs quite a lot, and jumped on the offer too, so I think they'll be fine.
My commuting bibs are the Belkin ones from the sell off a couple of years ago, which was put up on this thread, or perhaps one of the others. These should be a small step up in quality when those die, which should be after this winter.

...and because I procrastinated about which size to order, then went out to dinner because my wife finished work earlier than usual, I thought "damn it all, I've missed that great deal on Planet X bike shorts". Ffwd to minutes ago, and I log on again, only to see...Planet X website said:

...so pretty much EXACTLY THE SAME as DFS et al, then!(And I still have no real idea whether I'd be better off with size 'S' or size 'M'. My jeans are a size 32 waist, and very loose too, but when a tape measure is used, I come out as a size 33cm/34cm waist. )
ETA: Seems that they're no longer "in stock". I can pre-order them at the £13 price tag, but they're "due in: September"...

Bought myself a single speed to cycle between offices and site. It's cheap enough to be left in London in the company car parks. They're fairly secure; gated and CCTV monitored. It was £244 from Wiggle.
Not sure about the standard tyres; 38c Kenda ditchfinders. I've bought some 28c Continental 4 Seasons. I run these on my road bike in the winter and rate them. It also means all my spare inner tubes fit this bike too.
I've also swapped the pedals for some DMR V12s I had in the cupboard.

You are going to find you're thigh muscles hurting where they never hurt before. Not sure about the standard tyres; 38c Kenda ditchfinders. I've bought some 28c Continental 4 Seasons. I run these on my road bike in the winter and rate them. It also means all my spare inner tubes fit this bike too.

It's a freewheel. Didn't fancy a fixie in London in case I need to emergency brake. My only experience of a fixie was at Herne Hill Velodrome and it was... interesting. Are you going fixie or freewheel ?
This weekend the trusty Dawes Galaxy morphed again...
Last year she was a commuter slash go-anywhere cross country tourer, this year she's a winter commuter and training steed thanks to a nice set of Conti 4 Seasons and a brake upgrade in the shape of some extra long reach callipers to replace the dreadful cantilever 'brakes'!

Team GB Olympic Jersey for me and my usual chamois cream order. I use it every day for the commute and I go through a tub every two to three months.

Jersey should arrive today. Wiggle are only selling XL and I may need XXL. Thankfully CRC sell an XXL.
Missed out on buying one in 2012, because I was lazy. By the time I got round to buying one, there were none available in the bigger sizes and the bigger sizes were going for double the retail price on Ebay!

Few things in the Rapha sale, Mk1 Classic jersey which is on re-release for £65, some reflective overshoes for £10and some wash.
I'm waiting for the "Final Reductions" email, since I don't actually need anything. Got one eye on the merino t-shirts though. It's been an expensive month.

I was holding out for a Classic Jersey at £55 but when I logged in on Saturday then had sold out in large in all colours except plum (was after white), so took the plunge on the Mk1 Classic instead. It's been an expensive month.
x2 michelin pro4 service course in 25mm
I have conti gp4000s in 28mm on my Defy, but they come up at 31mm, just too big, keep getting stones scrapped under the fork crown, decathlon have Michelin pro4 service course x2 pack for £36 so bought them, they come up large as well, 27mm so just about perfect.
