On the way home yesterday I noticed that both my cheapo resin pedals were in advanced states of disintegration so went to Halfords and bought these.
Before you come at my with pitchforks for not buying something Italian made of unobtanium these are pretty much identical to the OEM pedals which made it through two winters and 3,000+ miles of commuting.
And I wanted to get something there and then that I could fit before today's commute.
They look very special, but I can't quite work out how you clip into them...Before you come at my with pitchforks for not buying something Italian made of unobtanium these are pretty much identical to the OEM pedals which made it through two winters and 3,000+ miles of commuting.

EDIT; I've actually become the person I used stare at when I discovered MTB's; he was the fellah who insisted on riding a "racer" or a "tourer" with drop bars, skinny wheels, gear leavers on the down tubes, leather saddles etc etc when all the cool kids had discovered mountain bikes.
Here I am still on a MTB 30 years later and anyone under 30 is peering at me from their uber-modern roadies going "why's he riding that!?.
:-)

My 1st MTB had toe clips! Not sure I'd go back now I'm used to SPDs, but can understand why the extra pair of shoes would be more hassle than its worth if you commute in work wear rather than lycra
Both options can be entertaining at traffic lights if you get it wrong....
Well I use two bikes for commuting and local stuff. Both options can be entertaining at traffic lights if you get it wrong....
Going to the pub on my snotter tonight, for example.
I can just wear various combos of trainers/shorts/T shorts.
It's easy.
(plus I've NEVER seen someone in a pub in NW10 in SPD's and bibs)
When I come back from a race, moaning about coming at the bottom of the leaderboard (which is every time) my missus gives me the following advice/solution: "just pedal faster".
I find this simultaneously frustrating ("its not as easy as that!") And at the same time it's totally true... (it sort of is that easy...)
Anyway, she had some decals done for me and I've finally put them on!

I guess this just scrapes in under 'what have I bought' but the wife and I made a frame bag for the Giant last night. Needs a bit of 'finishing' but nearly there.
Pretty pleased with it, and looks perfect for baguette storage when on the road.
That looks rather good, and suspect there might be a market for selling them as well. Not that you're going to make a fortune off it.Pretty pleased with it, and looks perfect for baguette storage when on the road.
I'm just trying to think of a reason I need one from you...
The frame pack looks absolutely great!
It has inspired me to create a thread. Anyone familiar with the GCN Show on youtube would likely know the hack/bodge section. Every week they show a few pictures of home made trinkets, accessories, fixes and mods people have fashioned for their bikes and the presenters decide amongst themselves if each one is more of a hack (top drawer elegant, engineering solution) or a bit of a bodge. I thought it might be good to have a thread of our own hacks and bodges so I'll start one.

Been quite taken with the 1x11 on my new Full Susser, so decided I wanted some 1x action on my carbon hardtail.
First problem was sourcing a narrow/wide chainring that fits an FSA 3-arm (386 BCD) crankset. Eventually ordered from Bike24 in Germany (32T version).
All fitted without any drama so I ripped out all the internally routed cabling and removed the derailleur and shifter - looks so much cleaner now.
Took it for a leisurely ride round Swinley last night, feels pretty good - enough low range for 95% of it, though I'm worried i'll run out of gears on some of the fireroad sprints - we'll see. Hopefully go for a flat out spin in the next couple of days and see what difference it makes to my Strava times!
Plan was to upgrade to 11-spd XTR, but I might actually stick with the current 10-spd XT and save a couple of hundred quid...
