You don't use Garmin... Garmin uses you.

To be perfectly honest I don't want to do anything earth shattering... I'd like to be able to pre-load routes into it that I can then follow and I'd like it to keep track of my speed and distance, that's really about it I think - maybe interface with Strava somehow as I've been running that on my phone when I ride and continuing the history would be nice.

You'd think that would be easy wouldn't you... It mostly is, but there are some quirks.

Just bought a Garmin Edge 520 to replace an ageing Bryton Rider 40. Well that's a significant step up in every way!

Used the route guidance with Open maps installed to navigate my way round Deepcut and Tunnel Hill using someone else's ride, far better than a breadcrumb trail. The auto sync with Connect/Strava and Training Peaks was within a few minutes of stopping. No complaints so far.

The irony being that the unit you have just bought of him will probably last forever!
I'm pretty sure I give off some kind of electromagnetic death rays. I could make a black box crash. Hopefully you'll have nothing but good times with the ghastly piece of st thumbup

Well so far I've managed to charge it, does that count?

As well as my new Ribble R872 Di2 bike that I got today (see your bike thread) I also got a Garmin 520 bundle so I can stop using my phone and limiting myself to rides less than 4 hours!

Shiny new Shimano XT shifters delivered today!!

The upgrade to full XT on my Specialzed MTB is almost complete.

Need to work out how to fit them now, and of course getting the indexing correct too!!

Goring Gap? My in-laws live about 1/2 mile along the seafront from where you took that photo!

They are buttery smooth and very light to operate compared to lesser models - mine's paired with the XT Shadow rear mech. The front XT is as light to operate as the rear, which I've never had with any chainring mech before.

Must sort out some brackets to mount the shifters to the XT brake levers - I did the brakes on mine first, then found the new mountings for the brake levers interfered with the old LX shifters which brackets weren't available for...

Just gone from flat bars on my London Road to drop bars, found some new take off bars with Shimano 11 speed shifters & brakes for a decent price. Despite what the photo looks like they aren't pointing to the sky!

Thought I ought to order some new tyres... As the Pro 4 Service Corse has been retired I've ordered the new Power Endurance tyres which are actually available in 25mm bounce

oh dear just junked my Michelin power endureance tyres after just 4 weeks on the bike and less than 500 miles , too many punctures , suffered 3 on one 85 mile ride then 4 on a 65 mile ride , they felt nice and rode well but just cant keep the sharps at bay . £70 down the drain and a complaint sent to Michelin.

now on a set of Shwalbe duranos

Ah, it'll be interesting to see how they hold up against the Service Corse which have actually been pretty good. I'll make sure I'm geared up for punctures just in case frown

You've had this for a while now.

What do you think? Pros and Cons?
