New lights for the coming autumn commutes.

Moon Comet to replace the bright-but-far-too-heavy Cateye TL-LD1100 that fell off recently and a tiny Lifeline front light for added 'here I am'ness. Both are USB to save all that undignified faffing around with AAAs.
I don't get these USB lights. What happens if you run out of juice halfway into a ride, or if you get to the bikeshed after work to discover you've left it on all day and now it's dead?
I can always carry a couple of AAAs with me as a backup. A portable USB charger just seems impractical.

So then you have to keep that charged as well? wink

They last for at least a week's commuting by all accounts, but as I'll only really use them for that they can be charged at work, or overnight. I have another AA-powered Cateye for front duties when I'm out for a proper ride at night, plus a backup CR2032-powered rear light just in case.

A huge win on eBay. Bought one of these...

... for £48. RRP £130.

I'm hoping Selle Italia's patented Arseometer is accurate, because this will suit my S2 build a treat and allow me to get rid of the painful Fizik tri saddle which is currently treating my bottom like a punchbag.

Just wheels left to go with the S2...
Did you go to the shop to get measured to find out you were S2? I'm asking as my wife has had trouble in saddle selection for her road bike and wondered what the way forward to get one that she finds comfortable and is lighter than the moon unlike the current one!
To avoid confusion: my bike is an S2 (Cervelo) and my arse is an L2 (presumably L for Lardy).

I did have it measured in the shop, yeah. They explained all sorts of things about sit bone width and flexibility, which mostly went over my head, but eventually came out with the L2 designator, of which the above saddle is (I think) the sexiest example.

Each saddle manufacturer, annoyingly, has its own system of measurement, so pick a brand that your wife likes the look of and find a shop which will measure you according to their system.
Many thanks, I think we'll get this done as part of a bike fit.

Always running 2 lights on my commuter once the nights start closing in, and most have a display to indicate an hour or so charge left. I usually just charge mine after a week or so when I'm in the office.

Postman delivered these this morning. Really pleased with the bars, but the quality of the cages isn't very good. May end up going back to my Elite cages.

I ordered the bars and the cages form a company in China. I've never bought anything on ebay from China. I ordered it all on the 4th and it arrived today, so that's 13 days from China. I'm pretty pleased with that. I'm probabaly going to take the plunge and order soe more bits from the same company. I fancy some titanium bolts for the bottle cages and the stem.

I'm still waiting for a price on the actual bike from Epic Cycles. I know they have a great reputation, but their last e-mail hinted that they expect me to drive up for a bike fit before they give me a price. I can't say I'm keen on driving 300 odd miles only to be told that the build I want is out of my budget.

So this C59... You've got a pic right? Just so as we're all absolutely clear on what it is that you are not buying.

(Frameset only) Hideous isn't it?
Yes, you're right. You wouldn't want to make the mistake of getting sucked into the vortex of such a machine...

Finally I can throw away the series of home-made too-soft cone spanners I've been struggling with... because these turned up:

... and on a similar note, I can throw away the one-use bleed kits I've been trying to use more than once (the syringes seize up and the hoses won't stay on the nipples... because this turned up:

I may finally have every single tool I need for the bikes I own and the others I care for. Finally. nerd

TIL: There is someone somewhere who needs 14 cone spanners.
Bonkers!
Makes the Park Tools pizza cutter look almost essential!
Good work.

A pair of Pacenti CL25 rims for my single speed 29er, also some D/B spokes for the same.

Big box of Rema Tip Top patches.

Digital weigh scales.

34t Ultegra sprocket for my cyclocross bike. This will be used for the Three Peaks, then into the spares drawer until next September.

Pistonheads shirt, obviously...

I could have bought the 6 I really need individually but had some birthday money with an expectation I'd spend it... so I have. And the individual ones are between 7 and 8 quid anyway. The set makes sense when you need more than 5.

A set of Shimano SPD-5800 pedals and some Shimano R088 SPD-SL Road Shoes. Clipping in and out isn't as hard as I thought it would be so I don't think I'll fall off soon. It will be in a few months time, when I have forgotten about the pedals.

Interesting that you've gone for full Ultegra but the £15 pedals - let me know how you get on with them, I'm wondering whether they're a bargain or it's worth spending the £80 on XT or XTR ones?
