The "what bike bits have you just bought" thread

Do you put the end of the arms under the plastic bit, or over them? That was the bit I struggled with - putting the arms under the plastic bit (the mechanicsm that tightens/loosens) made it push against my head quite hard which was uncomfortable.
I've got Jawbones, and think I put them over the top of that thing at the back, seem fine to me, I can shake my head violently and they don't budge! Just a shame I couldn't get matching ones, no way on earth I was paying £215 for custom ones.TKF said:
Good luck with that
Oh I know they'll be crappy. Better than nothing is what I'm looking for here.I usually don't mind on the 30 min commute home, generally it's not long enough to get too cold and stuff dries out. It's on extended rides that it gets unpleasant, so if I can mitigate that a bit it'll help.
And I'm aware I'm breaching rule 5 here.

To be honest, I've not had too many issues with overshoes. Except for the cheap decathlon ones that my Mrs was given by a friend, who found he'd bought too small. She didn't like them, mainly because she doesn't clip in, so I 'stretched them to fit'. It was a big stretch, and they were, to borrow your phrase, 'better than nothing', until I came off the bike and shredded the neoprene.
I now ride in these http://www.endura.co.uk/Product.aspx?dept_id=107&a... and can report that the only issue with them is that the velcro heal tab isn't always willing to grip. Much preferred to the decathlon stuff as they have a lock-down zip, so don't annoyingly unzip themselves during a ride.

Hmmm ok thanks I'll have a play with some in the shop and take my helmet to test again to work out exactly what i was doing yellowjack said:

They do keep you nice and warm without getting sweaty and they are fine in light rain but once it starts properly raining they, like all overshoes, aren't much cop.

Would be interested in thoughts when it arrives please?
I've had mine for a couple of years - very quiet, solidly-built and the resistance unit is good/consistent enough to calculate power from with something like TrainerRoad. You can get an oversize flywheel for them which apparently gives a more roadlike feel and coastdown, but I think mine is too old for it to fit so haven't tried one.Markp13 said:
They're meant to be uni-size, but mine was just delivered, and I seem to be at the lockstops on all the adjusters...I'll have a play with it later. A colleague has just pointed out that I look like a complete donut with it on in the office.

You must have a head the size of a rock!I'll have a play with it later. A colleague has just pointed out that I look like a complete donut with it on in the office.
I have quite a big head and I have miles to go on the adjustment front.
Have you noticed the dial adjustment at the back of the helmet?
You do tend to look a bit of a pillock the first time you put one on for sure but it's worth it for the safety they provide

I haven't had a good play with it to be honest, but I think I've found all the looseners. WRT your final line, it's not my first helmet, I'm used to looking like a pillock!I have quite a big head and I have miles to go on the adjustment front.

Ah sorry, it's my first helmet however, so I'm still feeling the pain cycling down the street with it.What do you think of it quality wise? I thought for 65 pounds it was as good as a buy I would get.
Some Lusso cycling gear from Sport Pursuit. I have no idea what it's like, but at £20 for a top and £30 for shorts, it's worth a try... However, my list for wants includes a turbo trainer (which will inevitably include a spare rear wheel and casette ), a Garmin, shoes, helmet, gloves and lights - this cycling malarky gets expensive

Other than that, the quality feels pretty good. I'd certainly consider another one, but might try it on first, when this one becomes a rotten, festering, stinking cesspot. (I tend to try and get the full value out of them!)

The fit for me is "only just" meaning I won't get much underneath it. I'll have to keep my old one for putting hats underneath, which scuppers my plan of not mentioning the new one to the missus and hope she doesn't notice.

At the risk of sounding stupid, surely you just wash it? Other than that, the quality feels pretty good. I'd certainly consider another one, but might try it on first, when this one becomes a rotten, festering, stinking cesspot. (I tend to try and get the full value out of them!)
