The madone is still a great frame, I have a Domane 5 and the wheels are definitely the weak point of the package.

I'm looking at puting some mavic ksyrium wheels on to reduce the weight a little, at my level of riding I'm not sold on the aero wheels. I had a go on a bike with just 50mm section wheels and found the sidewind behaviour to be unsettling. Passing field gates etc at a decent speed really made the bike wobble when it's breezy.

Maybe if I was riding TT's I'd put up with it but for now it's low section rims for me.

^^ I've just fitted one of those. 70mm. Did 57 miles today without my hands going numb! Result.

Great Stem, I've got the one and the two in slightly different lengths. Want to change my "one", but the colours then wouldn't match my bike

I thought my stem was 120mm so ordered a 110mm when it arrived it was the same size so the new one is 90mm feels much nicer smile

Sugoi RSE bibshorts, by far the most comfortable shorts I've worn, are reduced from £130 to £50 on Sport Pursuit. I have a couple of pairs inbound.
Out of interest what other makes have you tried? Road CC gave the normal RS 4/5 so the RSE must be better, the matching tops look good as well.

I assume you have bought from them before, lead time is quite long (4 weeks).
I have Assos and Castelli from the decent end and stuff like dhb from the bargain end of the market. I bought a pair of RSE about 2yrs ago and they are my go to bibs for long rides on warmer days. Superb padding and they have panels that mould around your leg so there is no need for silicone grippers. They stay firmly in place for crisp tan lines.

They also have small mesh panels at the front and rear of the chamois which helps air flow and noticeably keeps things cool in the heat.

But beware of those cold-start hot-later days, especially on fast descents. It can get a little chilly in there!
How much nicer are these than the DHB Aeron pros? I have 2 pairs of the Aeron pros and they've been really good shorts. They're DHBs more expensive shorts but I can get them for around 1/2 price....so are the Sugois worth that much more? Both my Aeron pros are around 2 years old so could do with another pair. I also have a pair of Castelli-Garmin inferno bibshorts which are really nice.

I do prefer a slightly softer padding, so I'd like to know whether these have a decent padding compared to the DHB shorts, if possible?

May order some depending on what you say....pity the delivery time is around 4 weeks!

Many thanks.

When visiting my brother recently in the US&A I took him to his local bike store to buy him some essentials for his De Rosa - a Fizik wedgie saddle bag, spare tube, Co2, tyre levers. Now he won't have to phone his son to collect him when he's a flat tyre and is 15 miles from home!

If anyone here visits the Fox Valley area of Illinois (St.Charles/Geneva), visit Sammy's Bikes. Sammy Radi's a really friendly guy, runs a team (http://egopbsammysbikes.com/), and has a great store - Cervelo, Colnago, de Rosa, Look, Scott, etc. (Also recently opened Giant Fox Valley store across the road too)

Picked up my new Scott CR1 on Saturday. Life got in the way so haven't ridden it yet, but hope to get out at least one night this week followed by a 52 mile outing next Saturday with a couple of mates that takes in a lot of the Tour O The Borders route I am doing on 9th August (including the Talla reservoir climb - looking forward to see how my new bike and I cope with it).

I have ordered one of the race starter gel packs from Wiggle, as well as a new Elite bottle cage to match the colours of the new bike, and some dhb Aeron cycling shorts as the cheapies I am using from Decathlon are rubbing me away slowly biggrin

The dhb I have are the regular Aerons. Quality is really not comparable and I'll only use the dhb on the turbo tbh. I find them loose in the leg and I don't have particularly skinny thighs. Chamois moves about in them too whereas the Sugoi stays put and you forget about it. No idea what the Aeron Pro are like though.

There's a review here of the RSE. http://road.cc/content/review/20429-sugoi-rse-bib-...

Popped to an LBS for some mitts and got these Assos s7

Whilst there he noticed my Ridley and he mentioned they used to sell them a few years ago. I asked if he knew where I could get a spare dropout as they're replaceable on my model and the only place I've seen them is USA who want £70 to ship it. "Hang on a mo" he says, pops out the back and returns with this.

What are the chances of a shop having a spare scandium dropout for a model only made between 2010-2012? And what are the chances of someone walking in with exactly that model? Well chuffed!

Why would you have a replaceable dropout?

Sacrificial. Great if you drop the bike and the rear mech snaps it.

At a guess it's stiffer than just a hangar. Apparently some pro teams use steel mech hangars - the frame could be destroyed but that's not a concern and it's worth it for the faster/sharper/more accurate shifting.

Or you ride over a plastic bag like this chap did... should save the frame.

I post this as the bike bits I just didn't quite manage to buy because someone else got there first. Gutted... was really looking forward to rebuilding this one but was away on holiday and had an agonizing week to wait until I could get over to view it.

Could also be for different axle conifguations. My current frame has 135x10 26" drop-outs and i have another set for 142x12 650B.

Or you could, as I did, snap a chain going up a 20% incline and have the residual torque drag the twisted link through the jockey wheels, twisting the dérailleur and, ultimately, snapping the hanger.

Perhaps it's stiffer, perhaps it's sacrificial. I just like it because it's pretty.
