I just spent 30 mins discussing the finer points of spds with the shop guy (who was very knowledgeable and had been there and done it). Ended up with some M520s (he said spending anything more now would be pointless).

There are differing degrees of sole stiffness within MTB spd shoes, from what I've seen, only go for road spds and shoes if you're a full on roadie. My new specialised shoes don't look like plastic clogs!

Does to tescos carpark tonight for a maiden voyage!

Sounds like a sensible chap!

Good luck with clipping in and out, just keep a clear head and remember the heel needs to come out first!

You WILL forget to unclip and do Del Boy soon enough
I did it at a red light outside work
However you only really only do it once

Best of luck

Embarrassingly I did the del boy thing but without SPD's, I had been tweaking the saddle height and may have got it too high so as I put my foot down it was still off the ground, and the rest unfolded with a tedious inevitability leaving me with a beauty of a graze on my knee.

The heel? Howd you mean? I've been playing at clipping in and out on the drive- seems 'ok' so far.

Shoes are these:

Specialized Body Geometry or something. £70 of hard(ish) soled velcro spaz boot.

I've confused you!

What i meant was pivot around the pedal with your heel. If you see what i mean. Clear as mud? Good.

Good choice of shoe, btw. Now go on a ride and revel in all that extra power!!!
