It's when he gets to choose my mobility scooter that I'll worry!

Ebay it in a charity auction. See if you can string together an amusing enough description to go viral. I'm sure there's some inspired minds on PH who could help with this.

Otherwise strip off all the plastic st and make it look like a bike.

I agree with all those who say the son should be grateful for what he gets - but it's our reponsibility as parents to buy something they actually want, and which won't leave them utterly socially isolated. If you can't afford a bike he wants then buy something else (although I suspect that doesn't apply here).

If you leave it at that then it'll just sit in the shed, plenty enough kids just want to sit in and playstation, anything that gets them out and doing stuff has to be a good thing.

On the subject of crap bicycles does anyone remember this

It's a Itera plastic bicycle invented in the early 1980's. I remember it being hailed on Tomorrows World as the future of the bike. Low and behold a couple of weeks later the bike shop in town had one for sale at the princely sum of £130, at a time when you could get a working Mini with tax and ticket for the same amount. It took pride of place at the shop, outside, just as you walked in through the door.25 years later it was still there, all the plastic faded to just off white and the price ticket unreadable.

Still, it's better than that crap the OP's missus bought the kid.
The bloke we bought our old Peugeot racers off was selling one of those on ebay last week. I kinda like it. We're off for a ride on sunday and stopping for food over the road from him, might offer him £40 for it. :S

Have to say I p****d myself reading this.

My son has been saving up his money, to which I have agreed to add the other half, to purchase a DMR trials bike for his birthday

Sorely tempted to buy one of those, just for the look on his face when he sees it

Does that make me the worlds worst dad !!

I've just shown this thread to Mrs Pints, and she places blame firmly at the door of 911m (although she did ask how a mother could do that to her own child. A ginger stepkid, fair enough, but not your own flesh and blood.)

She reckons you get shot of the monstrosity that now lurks your shed, sort out a Mongoose Pro pronto, and send 911m junior for councilling - just to be on the safe side.
hehe

With 2 ginger children and 3 step-children I'm not sure whether to take offence or just ignore you. I guess the latter takes less energy.

Not at all. The thread has given many a prankster a new reason to consider offspring. I put in my application to become a temporary foster carer Friday, so I can enjoy the joke over and over again with the same bike!

If you took offence everytime someone made fun of Ginger people you're going to live a very high blood pressured life.

The Motorlessbike (my son's name for it) has gone back, after a struggle.

Mrs911M is banned from buying things with wheels attached (except shopping trolleys).

911m junior has apologised (now the bike has safely gone) to his mum for his reaction to the well intended gift. In fact the little fella has sacrificed some of his holiday money and bought her a new purse frown

It's luminous orange and encrusted with rhinestones. I'm not entirely sure if this was an act of remorse or revenge hehe

Poor kid he will need therapy for the rest of his life and may turn to crime due to the poor choice of bike by your wife. His education will suffer, he may be bullied at school, and the bike will make a good coat rack in the garage as it will never see the light of day again. I think wifey needs teaching a lesson, go and buy her clothes and choose her hairstyle and make up and see how she likes it.

After all that, have you bought him the correct bike?!
