1000 foot makes them irrelevant now I think. Drag racing IS quarter mile, anything else is ersatz.

Development is capped, speeds wont increase by the crowds annual expectations as we blindly follow NHRA regs.
+1.
Except for TFD being irrelevant, it's hardly that.
I've watched 1/8th mile competitions (not pro classes) and though its usually a compromise to favor expense or safety and not quite the real deal it still makes more sense than 'about 3 quarters of a quarter mile'.
4-5 second quarter mile is impressive, 3 second spurt races lose a lot for me.
I can see the AAFCs being the top dogs in the short term until/unless things change.

Supposidly Neergard run 324mph. Thats got to be on a 1/4mile track? Mosten racetrack? What was the et?

Looks like european drivers have got heavy funding like america now.
At a guess maybe that should have been kph? (201mph) as 324mph is quicker than the European record!

You ought to watch a 1000ft race right past the finishline. The race seems even shorter. So yes I agree with you there.

Think of the positives of 1000ft, less oil downs and probably a closer more competitive championship.

On another note, this hose pipe ban and dry long range weather forecast in the Santa Pod region looks promising .

The cars are still travelling the length of the track so oil downs are still highly likely unless they were to go in the last second or less.

Last Easter was the best weather for any event all year at the Pod - so yeah fingers crossed!!!

The last second is roughly 25% of a pass

Exactly, I don't like 1000ft racing don't get me wrong, but it's top fuel racing! Morgan Lucas' string of 3.74s (3 of the 5 quickest 1000ft runs ever including the 2nd quickest) all with sub 3 second 1/8th mile times (only 1 run had previously been sub 3 second since the swap to 1000ft racing) that is impressive.

Also works out that the last half track (of 1000ft) is about 1second.

I'd rather see two fuel cars lit to 1000ft than a couple of 1320 squirts and a load of aborted passes.

I have a (very serious academic) theory that if they live long enough, all Pistonheads Drag Racing threads will eventually evolve into ...

blah blah TF is boring/great blah blah Sportsman racing's better/boring blah blah 1000 ft is satans invention blah blah I went to America and everything was better blah blah budgets money blah blah

... no matter where the thread post subject starts off.

It's a bit like that "degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon" thingy.

A kind of natural law. Same as: "Don't mention the SPR toilets".

No matter what they do they cant seem to slow them down. Probably just costing more money to get the same performances like Gary Scelzi in 1999. Mind you its taken forever for someone to run a sub 3@ the 1/8th since Scelzi in the 1990s.

Yeah but Scelzi's was a lucky hit when the Clutch management failed.

Lucas' was tuned to run those times.

Some people will always find negativity in everything.

Just be grateful that we still have people willing to step up and and race these cars.

Yep. Still an achievement. Especially running it three times like a bracket car.

But given the budget, the track, the experience, the data - should it NOT be a surprise ??

Pushing the limits is what the top teams are supposed to do isnt it ?

Not taking anything away from the numbers, just saying....
