Anybody checking web cam? Might be wrong but it looks like the startline guys are checking traction with some special piece of kit - haven't seen that before anybody know what it is?
Often see the guys picking up stuff, mopping and sweeping and kicking bits to one side - would have thought a leaf blower (or sucker for that matter) would be a very useful accessory on the startline to clear all the rubber crumb etc. - but what do I know?
Cheers
They have got one, but usually only used for blowing excess gold dust off. There's a reason rubber, etc is picked up, mopped, swept or kicked to one side. To simulate trying to blow a bit of rubber off the startline pour some treacle into a tray and drop a pea in it, then try and blow it off with a straw.
In the US everybody runs 3s at terminal speeds up to 330 mph but in Europe a 4.0 or 4.1 is a very good time with terminals in the high 200s. The cars are all working well at the Pod this weekend {including Chris Andrews} and I'd expect given the great weather that some cars will break into the 3s and 300 mph.
Still don't understand the thinking behind 1000 ft though !

Bill.. don't start that debate again ;-)
Absolutely gutted I can't be there this weekend. Normally pitched the tent by now and bbq on.
Just want to wish EVERYBODY a great weekend, enjoy the racing and the sunshine and lets hope some records are broken on the great Pod strip and lets have a fantastic end to a difficult season.

Was at the Pod in my trusty 'vette for Friday and Saturday and have just got back. The entry was not as good as in previous years {no actual bump spot in any of the Pro categories}but the weather more than made up for it and there seemed a very big crowd today. I was surprised no fueler got in the 3s as conditions must have been close to perfect and all the cars seemed to be on song, still there were loads of 4.0 passes. One thing as an "old timer" these days one of the things I used to look forward to were the Top Fuel throttle blips in the warm up, these have become less and less common and out of all the cars I saw this weekend only Anitia Makela actually did them, a retrograde step I'd say !
Malta now seems to rule the roost in TMD and with Dave wilson {maybe} going we brits are getting a bit short of really competitive cars in the Pro categories. We have lots of Pro Mods but only Graham Ellis seems to be able to get much below 6.5 and then not consistently. The Turners still seem a bit off the pace of some of the Scandanavian TMFC teams, Conrad Stanley still seems trouble prone, and while Team West Tec have looked much more competitive this weekend they are still down the qualifying list.
Highlight for me was the 5.7 Top Fuel bike pass, I was actually watching that on the pit side near the finish and it looked like a low flying missle ! Also very impressive I thought was the Street Eliminator class with 7 cars in the 7s and all of them looking brilliantly prepared in the pits.
For once the show ran reasonably to time and while there were a couple of oil downs the show ran as well as I can ever remember. With the weather forecast tommorow should be even better but I can't attend unfortunatley.

I had a brilliant time watching the qualifying with my son - what more does a 9 year old want than sunshine, lots of noise and amazing racing ? ( ok, he probably wanted me to provide some shade but hey...)
I've been going to the Pod for over 25 years now, always come back with " the glow" ( windburn / rainburn / sunburn ) but will always come back
Thanks to everyone who takes the time and effort to put on a show for us petrol heads who can only dream of owning one of these cars - you're legends. A few of my piccies are in the link below

Cracking weekend (both literally and figuratively) massive congratulations to all the winners, championship winners and record setters - best weekends spectating for a long long time, top job everyone at the Pod.
Now back to the depressing reality that we're out of the National Finals and Flame & Thunder
