Little off topic but one thing we did at Euro Finals this year was a sweep sake, there was a big group of us so it worked well, and gave the added excitement for every race in the Pro classes. Little betting never hurts and we will be defiantly doing the same for nationals

Back to the racing, it was awesome to see a field of fuel coupes, what's the bets Urs, Micke and Lex return to there roots

2002 Super Series I think, we were in the pairing lanes due to run after and remember Gerda shouting down the headset to no reply as Lexs wiring had burnt...

Yeah I was more pointing to just the funny cars rather than fuel funny cars, but I have heard them over the years saying if the coupe class took of again they would jump back in.

But then this will pull apart the Dragster class hence Mr Bartlett won't want it to happen,

In the Euro Finals programme there was a comment about a funny car series next year.

4 events, 3 at the Pod, 1 at Hockenheim.

24 August 2003 was the date of the incident, I have a few photos of the vehicle that I took in my capacity as Funny Car Championship Coordinator.

Let's see the pictures then Jim, I remember it being covered up with some tarpaulin after looking sorry for itself. Must of been the only event we did in 2003 then as we blew the motor at that event, my memory is slipping already!

Was a nasty one, kicked a rod at just past half track if I remember right and burnt to the ground, similar to Smax's matte black Olds. Lex had the ex-DJB Showtime Avenger if I remember right?

Would love to see 8 fuel floppers, even running 5.2-5.4 side by side they're an awesome site smile read somewhere that Esko Raisvuo was interested in a funny car if he could shift all his long pointy car stuff?

I remember he made one pass in it when it was still in the Showtime colours of blue, white and red with the roadrunner on it. I think Bill Sherratt drove it not long before Lex and boomed the screen out of it twice in one weekend.

This car I think it was:

Dan, I do not have an image hosting website to enable the photos to be shown here but I will send them to you by email and then you can do whatever with them...

Edited to add (from Eurodragster.com):
"The next pair was Lex Joon and John Spuffard, great burnouts from both cars and two strong launches. A small flash of flame under MPM Oil Avenger suddenly turned into a huge fireball at about 1100 feet which was bad enough to burn at least one of the chutes off in the shutdown area. Lex got the car stopped as the FAST team drew up alongside, Lex is A-OK but we understand that the car is in a bad state. Meanwhile Spuff in the other lane powered to a 5.409/272.73, the speed is a new National record so congratulations to the Showtime team on setting a new best on their first two runs with the new body."

Saw the fire and then I spent over an hour watching the team try and clean up the mess. Felt so sorry for them.

I felt sorry for the crew guy who was trying to remove the charred blower restraints with a blunt knife (they were not worth saving) so I lent him my Leatherman which neatly cut through and he nearly took his hand off in the process!
