Look up the Lenco gearbox then say that drag racing is easy laugh
outlawed in the UK when "The Heavies" came over dominating the (then) pro stock class as they cost too much

clutch+shift for reverse and 1st, then bang/bang/bang/bang-----chute (1 hand on the wheel

Funny that this thread has been bumped, I've been idly looking at what would be the cheapest way into something that'll run 10s. Current front runner is a spares and repairs E90 3 series, a Toyota 1UZ and running gear out of a Lexus and a fat turbo.

Google Sammy Miller. He ran a car at the Pod that posted a 3.something ET and 300+ mph terminal. Now that was quick!
I was there...........
Me too 😁

at 6'4" and 17 stone, I'd probably be a bigger power drain than a supercharger on a bike laugh

Steve Venables is 16 stone and runs mid 6's at 220+

Eric is a legend but I'm always wary of thinking records will stand forever , Larry Mcbride ran a 5.61@268 last year, I thought no one could match Elmer Tretts 6.06 run in 1996 nut now 5 second runs are commonplace. If NHRA run a series or even a few more exhibition races it could develop the class no end , needs some new blood as well as Spiderman is in his mid 60's now

Fuel bikes scare the hell out of me though think id prefer the rocket !
The difficulty for the rockets is that there has been no proper HTP since the late 80's.

Degussa stopped supplying it and they were the last people to supply it. They got sued by an idiot using a rocketbelt who fell out of the sky.

Eric distilled small amounts but it was not Mil spec. So it needs warming up and knackers the Catpack screens.

The fact there has been no Mil psec HTP since the 80's is why there have been no improvments on speeds and times over Sammy Miller.

Had the HTP still been available we would be over the 400mph by now easy.

Very slow time for the speed.

This paradoxon got me puzzled in my early days as spectator and fan,
why were some cars running quick ETs but other cars with slower ETs were faster in the traps ?

I think it was Peter Schöfer who took time and patience to explain,
basically the car with higher ET spends more time on track to build up Top Speed.

This is particularly seen on turbo cars/bikes as some have amazing second halves of track
when the boost comes on ( and when the drivetrain survives the enormous torque in top gear ) .

But by then the NA / nitrous / blown vehicle in the other lane profits from it´s quick first half
and cannot be "reeled in" before the finish line by the fully boosted vehicle with the higher Top Speed.

Terminal speed is a good gauge of horsepower, ET is a good indicator of grip and weight

I threw together a 10 second car out of spares from my main drag car (that had gone high 9's) and some other fairly cheap parts although a Bike is probably the cheaper/easier route

Very impressive to "throw together" a 10 second car for £2,000!
Although I suspect your experience of building and running a 9 second "main car" will be a huge factor wink

How much HTP is needed for one run?

How is mil spec different? i.e. what's wrong with distilling technical grade?

The other thing to remember about this particular car was that it was FWD, which has a massive law of physics disability from the get go!

I couldn't figure out that time until I saw the video. That would be in the 6s or 7s with a good launch.
