Visiting the states
Discussion
I've been fortunate enough to go to the states a few times now for drag racing, Vegas 3 times, Gainsville and Houston. Vegas is probably the best all round but don't discount Houston, we got flights direct to Houston, very good weather and good ole Texan hospitality (gotta love lonestar beer).
Hoping to go to Texas again in March/April or even California maybe ??? anyone else going next year ?

I'm watching this thread with interest as I'm off to the Sonoma Nationals this summer to fulfil a lifetime ambition - watch a TF meeting before John Force retires!
I take it that paying a bit extra for reserved seats is much better than the general admission benches should one fancy a pit walk and still wish to have somewhere to sit?

So, have been discussing some arrangements with the travel agent.
Flights and transfers sorted, just got to decide on a hotel. The initial deal was with a budget hotel (Circus Circus), but we want something a bit more than that so currently looking into the hotel side of things.
We fly out Tues 28th Oct and fly back Tuesday 4th Nov.
Just looked on NHRA'S site and found the running order and i'm getting way too excited seeing its months away yet !
Roll on some warmer weather and a couple of trips to the Pod

1 - shuttle coach (approx $45 for three or four days) leaves various points along the strip every half hour if i remember right, we got on at treasure Island (after a quick session at Dennys !!).
2 - use the Vegas bus system, alot cheaper but slower, more arsing about and a possibility of queues when leaving.
3 - use a cab, again if i remember right we paid about $20 each way but quick and easy.
4 - hire a car, plenty of parking at the LVMS.
pop into the shop sited between the strip and the nascar stadium, loads of goodies, and dont forget the Carol Shelby museum nearby.
you lucky bugger, enjoy.
The Shelby Museum has recently moved away from the Speedway to Ensworth Street, between the Strip (i.e. S. Las Vegas Boulevard, not The Strip At LV Motor Speedway)and McCarran International Airport.

i highly recommend this museum - loads of great and rare exhibits. When i was there, i got to see a Sheikh arriving to pick up his brand new GT350 Mustang http://www.shelbyamerican.com/tours.asp
Regret to say, no they don't. As with F1, NHRA nowadays strictly limits in-season testing. They allow a couple of days at Indy before the US Nationals (Aug/Sep)and, I think, possibly up to four other days during the season, though I stand to be corrected on this. However, these sessions will usually take place after a race is completed, not before it begins.
Can you extend your stay to take in the Vegas race? Seems a pity to miss out when you are almost there.
