Wow!

It's like a stretched GT40-esque chassis with a truck body dropped on it. wink

A broken Monte Carlo.

Maybe a Lancia Monte Carlo would have been better. wink

A friend of mine used to race his Lancia Monte Carlo at Santa Pod years ago. From memory, it was doing about 13s (and that was in far from stock trim).

Tell me. Ive been reading some stuff about DW of late. Am I right that the open close cars are removing cooling systems and changing shocks ect before a strip run ?

That doesnt really tie in with the street legal thing surely ?

Some are. Larry Larson changes quite a lot between street trim and race trim. Others change less. It's an impressive feat, certainly, but is it a street car? Not really. Then again, I wouldn't say Frosty's is either. They're cars that can be made street legal with varying degrees of effort. I wonder how much slower a top NHRA Pro Mod would be if you added the minimum necessary to make it street legal.

Quickest and fastest street car? I'd guess that'd be Steve Neimantas.

What about Doug Clines '69 Camaro ? all steel, no slicks, no trailer
ran an average 6.8 @ 210mph over the 5 tracks (all 6 sec runs), came 2nd in the unlimited class

I love Doug's car. But he runs with wheelie bars, IIRC on methanol and isn't he running on cheater slicks?

As per the Hot Rod Magazine (we don't like Andy Frost) "Unlimited Class" rules. You can drive to the event, do whatever you like to the car in the parking lot, do a pro-mod run, make the vehicle road legal again and drive to the next track.

My ten Cents worth if a car drives from the road to the tree, does a quarter and drives back on to the road then it's a street legal quarter mile. Driving the car, stripping it back to pro-mad spec, doing a quarter and putting all the stuff back is a pro-mod quarter in a car that is then made road legal again.

I think Larry's truck is great for two reasons. It's a truck so Red Victor III is still the worlds fastest car and Dave Frieburger said "Let's see what you can do" and he did.

We can all bh/moan about what is street legal/street useable but till they are proper rules, it's always going to be a if/but thing. What would happen if someone ran a five dead on a airfield in Zimbabwe with a funny car but drove it there on idle ????
