The sad thing is even if they don't build on the site its self, no doubt those buying the new homes nearby would complain about the noise, despite them knowing the racing was already going on there before they moved in.
Its a sad state of affairs.
Indeed, it's a thing that threatens most circuits in the uk....when will councils/developers realise that the motor/motorsport industry is incredibly important to the uk....if shakey gets demolished where does that leave drag racing in the uk....the hot rodding/drag racing scene will have lost a major venue, and surely that would impact on other events/ the pod etcIts a sad state of affairs.
If the Long Marston site goes ahead it would only be because the land was sold, and backhanders were given.
If you read the document the whole plan of the council is homes AND job opportunities for the people with those homes.
There is nothing in the Long Marston area to employ 3500 people. However, the Gaydon site is home to Jaguar and Aston Martin with plenty of jobs at the expanding Jaguar site.
It'll be interesting to see how it all pans out...

Theres no housing for people, and green belt is hard to convert to building land, so the choices are somewhat limited, doubtless if Long Marston was a veritable goldmine for the owner he wouldnt consider selling but something tells me he may have a good offer on the table, too good to refuse.
I also hear the racing surface is about knackered and its £100K to do a good job....

Hmmm not sure if I like the sound of 'we will push ahead with our timetable ' bit

Sounds awful for wellesbourne but couldn't they move the flying school etc to shakey, build on wellesbourne and save shakey, the airfield, market and drag strip...a couple of vulcans would look nice next to the gate too!
Still, all we can do is support shakey, hope it survives, but if not just enjoy it while it lasts

TBH I think it's possibly a lost cause. Look at how much Shakey struggles to run the meetings money wise. The writing has been on the wall for some time, as much as I enjoy racing at shakey. There have been heavy time restrictions placed on it for a while, they struggle to afford to run the track drier when the weather is bad, they cant afford to invest in the site. There are racers who arent keen on racing there so they dont get as many show up, and spectators are few even though Shakey does it's best to promote. Global Gathering, Bulldog bash and I'd think possibly the hot rod drags / nostalgia nats have been keeping the place going. It's been said though that the racing surface is about knackered (looking at the cracks in it i can see the concerns) and that it would be a £100k job to replace it. I did hear on the grapevine that other motorsport users of shakey who get paid to run meeting's there had concerns about the transparency of the accounting that goes on... I couldnt comment on that though.
What does it mean for UK Drag Racing? SPRC Championship could be the only Championship...

We all know about the transparency of the accounting The competitors pay to race, the spectators pay to get in, the prize money if any is £50 if your lucky.Where does all the money go Oh yes! that old chestnut "The farmer who owns the land" That's the history of UK Drag racing. What does it mean for UK Drag Racing? SPRC Championship could be the only Championship...
