For me, it's all down to money. It's not looking great on that front at the moment, but then again, it wasn't looking good this time last year either and I made it out this year. Time will tell. Fingers crossed...

I can think of two drivers we may not see in 2015. One from Pro Mod and the other in TMFC.

Interesting to see everyone avoiding that topic. I'll be doing so as well.

well it's clear that Tet knows but doesn't want to push the issue; however, as this is a forum can I be bold and ask who you're referring to?

Less contentious then... what's going on with the (near) finish line gantry at the Pod?
Does anyone know how or why it got there in the first place?

I don't know, but I've heard all sorts of rumours from it being taken down entirely, to it being moved to the actual finish line, to being widened and probably many other variants too. It'd be a shame if it did go. I can see the theoretical dangers of it being there, but I'm not really sure it's enough of a problem to need fixing. To me, it's the defining feature of the track. Much more so than the barn ever was.

Here's hoping the gantry stays and is just getting a makeover, maybe safety improvements, maybe video screens or at a push being turned into a bridge (highly unlikely though on that last one).

Video screens would be appreciated

So is the piss taking nanny state talking about removing the gantry now?
May as well remove the Arnco as well in case someone bumps into it. And those silly traffic lights at the beginning just an accident waiting to happen those.
And let's have a pedestrian crossing for the back-up crews. And a lollipop lady.

I wouldn't be surprised if video screens were in the pipeline, just an opinion.

Wohhhhhh backtrack a little bit.....the santa pod words have gone from the gantry....there's nothing saying it won't be going back after a spruce up.....let's just trust the pod to do the right thing, no doubt they've got something in the pipeline

and there was me trying to be less contentious.

Rumours of Pro-Comp being re-stated and to include cars not strictly TMFC or TMD.

I haven't heard those rumours, but if true, I think it's a mistake. Pro Comp was of its time, but that time has now passed. The world is a different place now, and any attempt to reintroduce it will be doomed to failure.

Guard Beam gets moved closer to stage beam in order to keep some shenanigans at bay ?

I heard some pit rumors about some cars having a "sword" down under the belly that is high enough to pass scutineering

but low enough to keep the stage beam broken ?

I don´t quite understand that, ground clearance is 2" minimum and prestage / stage / guard beam are 1 3/4 inches over ground ?

So anything lower than 2" would not pass inspection and cause a funny sequence of prestage / stage lights anyway ?

The FIA rule book has the startline regulations in it, the Pre-Stage and Stage beams moved forward to be 13 3/8 inches behind the guard beam (since the guard beam is the start of the 1/4 mile). For 2014 it wasn't in the printed FIA rule book but it was in the online version.
As for the finish line gantry I'll say nothing more than nobody has anything to worry about :-)

Thank you for explaining, David. Just how much was the distance before, did you have to make a new hole in da wall ?

Another timing-related question : Is there a change to LED lights on the tree in sight or will you paint bulbs ?

The old distance was 16 inches from the centre of the stage beam to the guard beam. At Santa Pod the startline beams are inside metal boxes fixed to the ground so it's just a case of cutting new holes in the boxes and making new brackets to hold the photocells.

LED lights on the tree have been in the pipeline for a while, the problem is all the tracks should change at the same time. At some point in the near future the current filament lamps will be unavailable, certainly in Europe, so I would think the change would happen within the next 2-3 years.
