You didn't buy it off Barry, Paul. I remember when you and Fay came to look at it, it was the end of 93 or start of 94. Barry sold the dragster to my Dad (Andy Kirk) and Dex Dexter (real name!), and it lived in our garage at home, Barry was already running the purple car by then. After licencing during 93 and running at the Flame & Thunder, plans were hatched for a new car in 94. Unfortunately they never came to fruition, but with space in the garage, Rat Fink took up residence and the rest was history.
I don't think I ever knew that. I just thought Barry had a huge entourage and all those guys we met were part of it. Mind you, I'm well into my dotage now so remembering what I had for breakfast is as much as I can manage these days. So, Andy Kirk considered running a dragster? I thought he was an avowed doorslammer guy.

My car is in the background of Al O'connors pop, I last raced it in '92, so '92 or before for some of the pics.
Did it have anything written on it I may have closer pictures?I doubt it re. my car, its just a street car with the bonnet up next to the Volvo estate upper right.

He started off with dragsters, he was partners with John Dowse with the Blackout Racing pro comp dragster in the mid to late 80's. It was him and John that actually ran the "red car" before Barry, the red and white scheme being for American Racing wheels sponsorship they had at the time. When they pulled the plug, the car was sold on to Barry, who obviously then in turn sold it back to my old man and Dex when the purple car was built. When Barry was racing the red car, my Dad and Mark Newby formed the original "Prime Time Racing" and bought the ex Panic/Kopex Monza alcohol funny car. Sponsorship was attained to campaign that chassis with an Oldsmobile body on, but a few days before collecting the cheque, the company concerned went bust. Mark went to land speed stuff instead, and my Dad bought the Camaro whilst crewing for Barry again. Then the doorslammer years began...So, Andy Kirk considered running a dragster? If its not this Caddy its one almost the same, when I was going around the pits the boot lid was up and in the boot nicely lined up were three or four sleeping bags, they had driven over and camped in the car!
Unlike any other car you could choose to camp in the boot was huge and easily accommodated them
Aww, nice pics! They are from 92. That Cadillac is my friend´s car ( He still owns it and it got same looks as it did then). We drove it all the way from Finland just to visit Santa Pod. And yes, we slept in that car. When you have a thirsty 454 under your hood, you just want cut the accomodation expenses Unlike any other car you could choose to camp in the boot was huge and easily accommodated them
So what did happen to Dex Dexter?
I remember seeing some aborted licencing runs at Avon Park, watching from the grandstand behind the start line - this was before the sound wall and when the fire-up road fed in from the west side of the strip and the pits were on the other side of the track...

He had to take a vacation at her majesty's pleasure for some extra curricular activities. I believe he should be out and about now but we never saw or heard from him again. Shame really as he was actually a decent bloke.I remember seeing some aborted licencing runs at Avon Park, watching from the grandstand behind the start line - this was before the sound wall and when the fire-up road fed in from the west side of the strip and the pits were on the other side of the track...
To be honest, we got a good deal. I don't suppose anyone knew it was soon to fail tech on the basis the tubes were of the right size and gauge but the wrong material. Imagine my shock when Geoff Martin came to our wrokshop with his tester and told us "it isn't chrome-moly". Chris Isaacs put in a complete new mid section for very low bucks, he also made the front end more flexible which a bracket car needs to hook better. He also found a cracked bottom rail near the rear axle which was only apparent once the powder coating had been blasted away. There's usually a silver lining. There were other REDs available at the time but most were pre-historic or silly money.
Remember those cars very well, used to race against "Shaky Pudding" and Pete White in Street Class in the 80's, some fond memories, the Black Mass Marina 440 powered, however was another thing, guess scrutineering wasn't very tight in those days!! ....Les Szabo
