First of all, Robin was most definitely not "got rid of", he was an excellent race director and it was due to him not having the time to do it anymore.

Secondly Carole has already been race director at a lot of events last year and has been assisting Robin for at least 2 years, there's no question she has the necessary skills and experience.

Lastly she's been around the sport longer than a lot of racers have been alive, I doubt she'll be replacing Charlie Whiting anytime soon. Drag racing isn't even in the same category of disciplines as any form of circuit racing.

If you read my first quote yoill see that I was asking people's opinions. But all you lot jumped on me for asking, so once again will she be any good at it?

The race director is the same in any motor sports even F1. Maybe she will go on to that later if they let her or maybe she is dedicated to Drag Racing only.

Only comment if you have something to say worth saying
I know you was asking for our opinions, what I said was ask the racers who gave you pit gossip (which David has said was incorrect). Of course, you could have attended the meeting yourself and formed your own opinion.

I note in your profile you are a student, are you on an inset/teacher training day?

Carole is thoroughly dedicated to Drag Racing and has been for many, many years and knows the sport inside out!
Of course she will be good at the job... otherwise she would never have EARNED the position. Do you have any idea what it takes to become Race Director, not to say International Race Director?

Now how about you stop worrying about who is running a race meeting and get on with ENJOYING IT!
(And I'm pretty sure that most people would say that's worth saying)

Thank you hairyjester someone with sense and balls to give it to us straight between the eyes. I will report back to all of you after the main event and let you know the word from us on the banking. Maybe I can get sometime with the race director herself.

I am not a teacher just a student who might become a marshal or even the new Race Director in the future watch out. You all know that us on the banking think we know it all BUT DON'T.

I do take my hat off to the marshals who do a great job just wished that we could put names to faces or even have some time speaking to them when they are not busy. The track do a good job but on this occasion it was not communicated to the fans correctly. I am just taking an interest in our sport and good people.

If you want to talk to Marshals get onto facebook, there is a page called Marshalls of Santa pod, and most of us are members,

As for letting the crowd / fans know about a new Race Director, I'm not sure it matters does it? Only affects drivers and Staff / Marshals. From a crowd point of view the racing would just go on as normal wouldn't it?

a) Us ? b) Dave merely stated known facts, no sense or balls required (although he does have both)

a) Don't. b) When were you appointed spokesboy for everyone on the banking ?

chevyrat said:

No problem, we'll stop the race meeting so she can meet with you.

chevyrat said:

Well there's a shock, what year are you in ? 6 ? 7 ?

You wouldn't last 5 minutes with your attitude.

Maybe on your planet.

There you go using that "us" word again.

Clearly.

Very big of you.

chevyrat said:
just wished that we could put names to faces
a) Why ? b) There's a feature in each programme on an official, buy one, read it.

chevyrat said:

Marshals are more than happy to talk to anyone, even you, but they're only ever "not busy" when asleep or sometimes when it's raining.

chevyrat said:
The track do a good job
Again, very big of you.

chevyrat said:

The key officials are stated in the programme, buy one, read it. Or perhaps you'd like someone to ring you directly and inform you, given your self proclaimed status of spokesboy ?

I thank you all for your comments and keep them coming?

Wrong yet again. Carole is a good friend, and a colleague on race days.

We don't need to wait and see as we already know.

Give the office a call, I'm sure they'd be thrilled to receive any advice they can from you on marketing the track

LMFAO Crikey!!!!!! POST OF THE CENTURY! I'm in stitches over here lol!

I'm with you, I really don't see what the issue is all about, this isn't fking football, the fans don't need to be able to give their opinions like with a referee! It shouldn't matter who the race director is aslong as the meeting runs smoothly etc. Christ I've marshalled and raced for over 15 years and not given a damn who the race director is so god knows why the fans would need to know/care about who it is!

Maybe we should give chevyrat and his friends, some score boards, strictly come dancing style so they can give scores on the day?

Chevrat, your posts completely baffle me. Why are you so interested in this person & whether she's 'ok'. What difference does it make to your enjoyment on the banking? I'll be on the banking at the main event so I'm assuming you'll be completing a straw poll on the matter?. I'll gladly tell you my thoughts wink Why you didn't post anything about their predecessor who, by your account, did a crap job. Is it because they were male? Also, I don't get why info on the race director would be a good marketing tool; what benefit would it be to the track? I'm sure regular joe public don't give a rats ass who the director is, as long as there's action on the track.

We're not protective, we just like and respect Carole.
I didn't see you querying Robins abilities, nor Darren, nor Ian, nor any of their predecessors. Then again, judging from one of your other comments elsewhere on this forum...

Just been on euro dragster and seen first version of main event entry not very impressive lets hope it gets a lot better then just a few in Pro Mod.
How many entries do we normally get at this event.
...one would assume that you are new to the exciting world of drag racing and have no idea who I've just been talking about?? I suspect that Karl won't get the same grilling because he has gentlemans potatoes??

Perhaps it would be better to sit back and take it all in before you start criticising and being judgemental... I honestly thought the days of sexism in the workplace were behind us....

Oh and

we'll look forward to seeing you in the pits.... you do realise that as one of the hard working Marshalls you'll be spending most of your time in the pits and pairing lanes and not watching racing don't you....???
Or perhaps with your amazing judgement you'll skip the lower ranks and hit INTERNATIONAL Race Director status before the end of this season...

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez rage

Having spent decades with my gaze fixed on SPRs track action I can honestly say that, apart from occasionally knowing the name of the race director it hasn't had any bearing on me whatsoever.

That said, with spectators being a crucial element in any sport I sometimes think opinions, interests and feedback are too often glanced over and a 'voice' wouldn't be a bad thing if only to offer a bit of sensible insight and direction without being demanding. Customer feedback and all that if only to be sure there's nothing putting people off from going back again.

Good luck to anyone who takes interest in the personnel behind events, track owners and organisers etc are given significance in historical accounts from time to time - it is an interest factor albeit a minority one.
The same to anyone who aspires to be a marshall or any part of the track crew it's clearly very demanding and important to all.

Lastly, women in drag racing have been holding their own on and off the track practically since it began. It truly is a non-discriminatory sport so why a woman race director ever raised interest is beyond me.

Having taken a bit of a talking to from Carole at the signing in office many many years ago I suggest that it would be very good for her to meet Chevyprat in the flesh, at least so long as it was videoed so we could watch it again and again.

@ Crikey, I always thought you were a bit intolerant but on this one I'm with you 100% and I need to know where you found the boys shoes?

Was it the Santa Pod lost property barrel with his name and class written inside.

PURE GOLD.

I'd add a serious load of ROFLs if I knew how...

OMG I was just saying that having the first LADY INTERNATIONAL RACE DIRECTOR at SANTA POD is an achievement in its self, I would like to ask Crikey if you would like to help me with my thesis, as I like to study people and there views. I am taking all your comments on board and thank you for any more. I am not one to hide so will make myself known wearing my clowns outfit on the banking at main event. (NOT)
