By way of an update from over here in central Europe. We now have two REDs, Super-pro style. Both normally run low sevens. We also have a 6 second blown doorslammer and several now solidly in the 8 second zone. It's slow progress but the bug is biting.

There's a lot to learn here. NOBODY understands roll-out/staging and transbrakes are the new kid on the block. It'll come and there are the odd moneybags buying cars so maybe we'll get a top series going soon. I'm not holding my breath, they'll probably argue about everything and invent ten new classes.

The old Ron Fusaro car in the near lane was on the edge of the 6's when it ran in div1 I think. Pretty looking thing. Spitzer car I think.

It was shipped from the US recently, with the usual catalogue of problems, but seems to be behaving itself now. The Hungarian promoter, Zoltan Kohari, is putting together some teams to up the all-round quality of the show. He's been struggling with very restrictive rental conditions at his 'home' track but I understand he is now the owner (or some other complicated arrangement) and plans to put in safety walls and a grandstand or two. The other group in Kunmadaras work like the devil but they are just too far from any sizeable metropolitan area which severely limits their income - and future IMO. Zoltan's track at Kiszkunlachaza is close to Budapest and is a massive facility. We live in hope.

The comentator likes using the word "children" a lot doesn't he?....apart from that I couldn't understand much, but its good to see the sport alive in my country of birth..........how they afford it is another thing when wages is a 1/4 of what it is here p/month, sponsorship must be alive and well no doubt.

It is indeed alive and well and growing nicely. As you say, the costs are astronomic when compared to the average monthly income but the fact that Austrians have nowhere to race helps a great deal. There are now a few well funded teams going down the classic V8 route although the "massive turbo" 4-pot guys are down in the tens these days. Add to that a couple of 8 second doorslammers coming from Croatia (where the tracks are too dangerous for them) and the mix is looking quite healthy. Next year is looking like the trend will continue. Let's hope that politics don't get in the way.

Egészségére!!!
