The big talking point seems to be that Hockenheim has moved to later in the year, so it's now only a week before Tierp II. There are pros and cons to this, of course. It can be tricky for crew to get holiday, and it can screw with travel plans. But it also gives them time to prep the track better after the F1 race, and from a personal perspective, it means that it no longer clashes with a number of other things that I was already committed to. If I can get the budget together, it now means I can race at Hockenheim.

The question is, how many teams will risk breaking parts at hockenheim and not race in tierp......is it worth the risk for them? A week isn't a long time to get a car shipped back home and fixed

Hey Tet, good to read about your plans for 16, hope you get funding.

As far as I know, Tierp 2 and the Finals will also move one week back,

big "thank you" to all involved in getting more time after F1 in Hockenheim to prep the track.

The Ring has really bought one.....no, two of these Asphalt milling machines,

rubber has been milled down but only to the top of the asphalt surface, rubber stayed in the pores

so for 16 the prep has a much better base to work on.

Is there a "weather history" site that confirms the stuff that I heard about

weather @ Pod usually being better one week after the "traditional" finals date ?

That sounds extremely unlikely to me, and I suspect pushing the finals back a week is more likely to result in a weather affected meeting.

2016 FIA finals have been announced for a while and happen no later than usual.

All this talk of moving the Finals got me worried.... I've already booked my time off work and can't change it now!!!
Checked the Santa Pod Calendar and it's Thu 8th to Sun 11th September 2016 - usual dates???
Confused much!!!! confused

The Euro Finals is generally the weekend after the US Nationals. However, these past two years, owing to the unusually late Labor Day (always first Monday in September), the two events have coincided on the same weekend. Next year back to normal. Owing to 2016's leap year, if the Euro Finals had remained the same weekend as 2014 and 2015, it would have begun on 1st September.

Days and dates change from year to year -- check the calendar.

Has that been a deliberate policy or is it just coincidence? It had never occurred to me that the timing might be linked to events on the other side of the pond.

Just coincidence, I think. I don't believe the FIA/SPR calendar is worked out with a view to the NHRA season (but I wouldn't know). But keeping the two races a week apart does leave open the possibility of top-rank US presence at the Euro Finals, though that last happened with Melanie Troxel in 2010. Their coincidence these past two seasons seems purely a result of the unusually late Labor Day in the US.

So if the dates that the tracks have applied for become set then there's only 3 days between the end of the Hockenhiem event and the start of Tierp ?

Just like Mantorp and Gardermoen used to be back in the day - albeit with a slightly longer drive between the two ;-)
