Hey Martin, that old building at LMR used to be an okay clubhouse until the following headline appeared in the June edition of Motor Cycle News "WRECKERS RUN RIOT! Drag race mayhem".

Remember that. The report went on to read, 'Rioting drag fans wrecked the Long Marston bar and restaurant on Saturday night at the Ultimate Street Bike meeting. Fighting broke out among 200 bikers in the bar around 11pm and furniture was thrown through the windows, catering plant damaged and stock pilfered. Police armed with riot shields and helmets were called but by the time they arrived the fight was over and no arrests were made. One rider was taken to hospital after breaking through a barrier to ride down the strip, only to hit another rope barrier.

The organising club the National Drag Racing Club esitimated the cost of repairs would be about £2000. A spokesman was even more bitter that the work of volunteers had been ruined. "That place was put up by volunteers working in the winter when you couldn't touch the walls without gloves, because your hands would freeze to them. Some of the marshals have told me they don't want to run a meeting for thugs, but we'll be ready for next weekend's Transatlantic meeting."

What a story. How many people remember that! I think that was 1986 aswell.

Are these photos taken in 1984ish. I only started going in 1986 when my dad used to carry me in a baby cradle on his back.

Does anyone know what happened to Dave Warne/Tim cook?

Was the Houndog corvette frontend Modified later in about 1986?

Tim Cook's car was sold to Henri Joosten and still runs pro mod to this day although its been modified quite a bit over the years to be updated etc and new motors...

presume Tim left drag racing?

The car Tim Cook sold to Henri Joosten was a ground up build, and was 5/8ths scale, so was a completely different car to the black one in the pic.

The duallie in the background of the pic of the chevy still has an SLDO(ldings) sticker on the side, and the funny is still in the houndog colours. Nobby ran that truck for donkeys years, right back to Houndog 9 (the Quad Headlamp Vega "pup" ). Didnt think Martin was involved that early? I know the 'vette was modified, painted red and called "NitroForce", driven by Pete Barnett, was Martin part of that setup? (I remember Martin was heavily involved later when Ken McCormack was driving the car on Alky)

Tim worked for a while as track manager at SPR, but left soon afterwards.

The "Mean as Hell" Vega pick up is now wrestled (sometimes literally) downtrack by any number of Paul Marston's students, and is known as "Insanity". Dave Warne also ran a Sierra (See todays Eurodragster news to find out what happened to that car) before importing an ex Nick Nickolis Pro Stock Trans Am which he ran with some success in Pro Mod over here. Dont know what happened to Dave after that.

Carry On Scanning!

I could spend ages browsing old photos from UK drag racing, if you don't have anywhere to put them maybe one of the nostalgia sites would be happy to host them?

I have an amusing one of sammy miller (might not be him) pushing VP out of a huge puddle.

I have five photo albums here...tip of the iceberg however! Maybe when i have a bit more time i'll upload a few more. Any requests? Quite a few floppers rails and altereds in the collection.

Please remember these are from a private collection - if you would like to take, please reference it back to Yvonne Tramm... thank you

Kirsty,

If there's any more of Barry that we could possibly use for an up-coming project I'm working on that would be wonderful!

Even better if you could send me some hi-res scans!

Cheers

Gosh we have loads of Stagecoach, various paint jobs etc etc...i will ask Yvonne, i'm sure she will only be too pleased.

Jim - was that with the BDRA? Yvonne has a few photos, she must have been there to help organise it (i'm guessing....)
