when you guys are talking about rattles are you saying with the hardtop fitted or with the folding roof up or down? rattles drive me mad and i was hoping with the folding hood in place an s2k wouldnt be THAT bad for rattles?
Each car different. I had mine from new and it rattled with the roof up. It was the locking mechanism and something else which I could not work out. Honda had it on 2 separate occasions and they could not fix it. With the roof down it's completely fine!

With the roof up, it seems to be more of a creak rather than rattle. Perhaps a good oil would help....
I've now got the hardtop fitted as well. Apart from the extra creaks and rattles I quite like it. Somehow the car feels a bit stiffer and seems to turn in even better, but could be me imagining things
I do like the extra quietness that the hardtop brings, it feels more like a normal car now. Although it's now very obvious how little insulation there is between engine and interior. With the softtop you mainly hear windnoise and engine noise on the motorway, now it's just engine and it's quite loud!
As for the catches rattling, mine do it a little as well (they're fine with the soft top). Although it does make a difference how you fit it. When you put on the hardtop you should first close the roof catches and then the rear fixing points.

Rattling roof catches are standard and Honda supply that for free
Noisy gearboxes, clutches and diffs are standard too, it adds character
As is the clicking glass in the rear window
The S2000 isn't the most refined car and they are very mechanical sounding
Most stuff feels right though despite the noises; brakes, gearchange, etc. etc
Enjoy the cars and don't get hung up on the minor flaws

Done some reading about rattles from the latches on the roof, there are a few bodge fixes but the most effective fix seems to be just replacing the striker plates.
Otherwise some plastic tubing on the "hook" can help preload the catches a bit more, or you can put washers under the strikers. If its a softtop rattle i think there is some roof adjustment near the back of the doors.

If your roof is noisy, check this out, this will solve it! http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/index.php?act=ST&f=2...

More good info, cheers GB.Just like to update the importance of checking oil on these cars, because they really can use oil.
I've had to put in another half litre, but managed to drop the oil cap into the depths of the engine bay After many cuts, swearing, unbolting of heat shields I gave in and called SWMBO, who's skinny arms were able to reach in and pick up the cap in ten seconds. The shame
Great read JF - would you be interested in writing a news article for www.s2kuk.com?

Hi Ady, any idea where to buy the striker plates (other than a main dealer)? I've had a quick search with no joy.Otherwise some plastic tubing on the "hook" can help preload the catches a bit more, or you can put washers under the strikers. The rattles are driving me mad!
Striker plates are around £35 from a main dealer so not too bad. I'll try the aquarium tubing trick first and if that doesn't work I'll pay the £35.
I've only got 3mm left on the tyres so rung around for prices, they are cheaper than I was expecting:
Tyre fitter 1: Bridgestone ER30 £380.40
Tyre fitter 2: Yokohama Advan Sport: £395
Both prices are fitted. Any thoughts on the tyres and prices?

Why not just get some Bridgestone RE050's? They're probably most suited to the S2000 and shouldn't cost much more.
My local fitters don't have them I'll order some or go elsewhere, cheers.

Cheers Zombies, I'll give that a crack as soon as I get some time (SWMBO is forcing me to decorate the house at the moment ).No update on tyres or squeeky roof, but I have had a look at a few new cars. Namely a facelift S2000 (nice, but it was the same colour as mine and I want Moonstone or black), Porsche Boxster (didn't test even bother test driving, it was a dog) and a VX220.
All I can say about the VX220 is WOW. I want. I probably would have brought it there and then had the dealer not only offered me £5,250 for mine. Any offers?
Seriously though, I'm not sure what to do now. Whilst I think it over, have some pics:
Wanda vs. facelift (think it was a customer car)
VX220
