Honda civic losing power

Hey guys im new to this and could really use your help please 
I bought a Honda civic 1.6 vtec se sport 2002 last week and im having a problem with it!! mileage is approx.150k
Basically the car is losing power so I took it to my local garage where he ran a full diagnostic test on it & it can back with the lambda sensor (PO131).. so he reset it and said the error didn't come back on and should be ok!! Further to this it also showed eps 22-1 & 23-1 speed senor signal & he said this could affect the vtec??!!
This is the first civic I have owned and tbh I don't know what could cause this loss of power!!
When driving it can be completely fine one minute and all of a sudden starts kangarooing (which is rather embarrassing)!! Or instead of it kangarooing it just stands still and doesn't want to move and then just fly's off!!
I need to mention that the car has been stood for over 12months but would this even effect it?
