I have noticed exactly the same thing. The amusing thing is a lot of these cars have been advertised for a number of weeks now, which is no supprise as who in their right mind will pay that much for an old S2k!!

I have a 2005 with 43k miles on the clock. If I were to sell, I'd expect around £8500 for it given the condition, subtle enhancements and solid history (sadly very rare!)
I sold my face lift 04 model with 40 odd k on clock in July 2011 for 8.5k.
Residuals look to be strong with them probably because they don't make them anymore, are becoming a classic and (apart from 2 additional seats) offer the exact package the gt86 should've offered.

Recently saw a GT Moonrock grey one with red and black leather, hardtop included and had the factory fitted bodykit. 55 reg with just 37k miles and it looked absolutely stunning in every way - at trade for just £8995 ono!
Not surprisingly, it was sold within a week of coming on to Autotrader.

Still good prices considering they are getting rarer and rarer on these roads. Mines a GT 06 plate with 45k miles, just serviced and MOT with full honda history. Min I would accept would be 10.5k and its not for sale..

The thing is - it's not THAT hard to look after it and care for it is it? It's not a wallet stripper like an M3. I spent 600 quid on brake upgrades and fluids on mine at TGM in March, another 400 for a full whack service with plugs, valves etc at Chiswick Honda in June, and a fresh set of tires for 500. And it is absolutely mint - sailed through MOT with no advisories at 45k miles, runs tighter than one of Jimmy Savile's girlfriends, and a nice wax once a month keeps it looking mint.

Yep, i'm planning to buy one in winter, i don't expect prices to have dropped by then i just won't be in a position to go until after xmas, looking to get a well used, often thrashed, enthusiast owned example and expect to pay about £8.5k.t ones for lower prices. I agree, I guess the good prices that Honda garages charge are probably another reason why there aren't too many independants out there and they can keep quality high.I've got a 2002 Berlina model, had it since new - 56k on the clock and it's still running beautifully - I keep it well maintained, which is pretty cheap on the whole and I don't think I'll ever sell, as they will only get rarer as more of them get written off - just need ot keep an eye on the 'howmanyleft' website.
Over here on the continent S2000 are rediculously overpriced,i was looking at low mileage pre-facelift model(2002-2003 only,want old looks and glass window) and prices are startinng from 20.000euro.Since new one was 32.600 i refuse to pay over 16.300.I dont think they are worth that kind of money,and that is from someone who actually likes them.IMHO they 12.000 euro should be max what they are worth(similar MX-5 +50%).Also i have noticed they are bought and resold very often-i found a 2002 for 9.000,next day was sold(owner told me t was a reseller,gave me telephone number),appeared again for 11.000,sold within couple of days only to appear againn for 17.000 and sold within 2 weeks
I might be slightly biased here being an S2000 owner, but I think the S has probably reached the bottom of its depreciation curve, or at least it is very close to it.
I can't see original examples or well modified and well maintained cars with well documented history going for less than 5k for the earlier models, and 7-8k for the facelifts.
As someone said above, they are worth quite a bit in parts which helps, and the good examples are becoming rarer.

I agree, maybe the recent good weather has pushed prices up but I think last year seemed to be the bottom in terms of price. I'm quite fascinated by this topic. I'd be prepared to write off some off this as us all being fanboi idealists - wanting to think our cars are worth more than they are - but I was genuinely gobsmacked to see an 07 model up at nearly 14k at Chiswick Honda last month. I paid 10 for mine from there last year (after some haggling) and I would love to think I could get 7 or 8 back for that in a year or two. But, like others here, I'm not sure I'd sell it now. Its a fking brilliant car. Had it out on a car limits day last week and even the guy in an M3 there was raving about how amazing the VTEC kick sounds and feels. I almost feel I underappreciate it sometimes - I worry it looks a bit too much like an MX5 in a rear view mirror, but once you are sat in one and properly giving it beans it is one of the most enjoyable things on the road right now.
