no doubt they are going up. I got offered part ex on mine only a grand less than what I paid 3 years ago at a Honda dealer. Didn't take it! I'm holding onto mine
Mine is a 2001, now at 130k, mecanically superb and cosmetically a bit shoddyits done 130k and could do with some TLC, it has a Replacement hood with a glass window. I bought it, spent £800+ on brakes and a few other consumables and from looking around could sell it for a tiny profit now.

fk that, i'm going to continue having a ball and getting the top down at any excuse.

Also, how many other people keep hitting the bloody headlight wash button by accident with the roof down?
THe only feature i don't like!

You need to drive faster so that it hits the car behind you wink

The facelift cars got rid of that button! I used to elbow it all the time on my first S, though. I'd almost be tempted to unplug it :P

I bought mine while single. Used to trackday it and everything, spent a fortune on Sports Cat, tyres, brakes etc. Now have a girlfriend and the nagging of "we don't need two cars", "it costs a fortune to insure / fill up with petrol" , "you don't use it enough" has begun in earnest. The fact the bloody things are going up in value is one of the few excuses I am holding onto in order to justify keeping it and not buying some tedious SUV monstrosity!!!

oh - while we are talking s2000s - mine has developed a tiny 2cm tear in the roof. Anyone have any suggestions on a good fix?

Patching the roof with 'stormsure' glue and fabric tape works for a time.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Explorer-Stormsure-7190-Cl...

But once you get a tear on a piece of roof that crumples and stretches whenever the roof goes up and down, there is really not much you can do to permanently fix it I'm afraid. Glues and patches are temporary I found. In the end I got the entire fabric replaced on mine.

Omgus, take the fuse out of the head light washers , I took mine out first week of owner ship 14 years ago , and then again after a service when the tt of a dealer put one back in, every one does it , for more info go to S2ki.com

No need to worry now as I removed system from my car when I smoothed the front bumper last year .

Bet Hasbeen hasn't driven a car with an engine that revs so freely up to and beyond the red line , and after all the limiter is at 9400 rpm just 400 rpm before the line as I said before many early drivers never even saw VTEC engagement let alone the red line.

My car I s worth about 2 bob but it's not going any where it's mine for life , waiting for the engine to go pop then more fun and games rebuilding that.

I know i should take the fuse out but i'm still suffering from new S2K syndrome. Go out, mean to do something to the car, discover myself with the roof down out on the road within a couple of minutes.

It goes into hibernation in September and will stay like that until Feb so i am making the most of it now.
I know they are good all year round cars but i have nearly done my mileage limit (actually i've extended it twice), my Focus has a heated front Screen, more suitable tyres for winter and has made fewer attempts to kill me when it rains and i'm going too fast.

Cycle puncture repair patch on inside , hodge short term

Lots on S2ki.com have used Jack Smiths in Swansea recently £290 for mohair roof fitted you need your old rear glass or a spare one for them to fit , there's thread over there now about it. My new hood was about £800 from car hoods a few years ago now, think OEM is around £1500 plus fitting

Mogus , why on earth not drive it during the winter ! A crisp clear day or night roof down is yet another experience to savour.

I have had a little experience Chippo1. I did race an F1 Brabham Repco for a season, taking second in our drivers championship. I do claim to be a hasbeen, not a never was.

As for revs, how about 9700 RPM 181 MPH down Conrod straight at Bathurst. No rev limiter in those days to help the ham-fisted either. You had to feather the throttle yourself, when the thing got airborne over the second hump, if you didn't want it to hit 11500 RPM & blow up while in the air. Those engines were responsive enough to win 3 F1 world championships.

They have replaced that hump with the chase, as too many were killed by getting airborne going over it.

We found the best lap times were produced by changing somewhere below the red line, going over the peak power band was counter productive. The red line tells you where the engine is safe, not that it is the best gear change point.

Honestly:
  • It will be back in use by the beginning of March, pleanty of crisp clear days/nights then.
  • In the next few thousand miles the S2k needs, oil, tyres, and the MOT is due late october.
  • But i have just spent all my "fun stuff budget" on a holiday in Australia to see in NYE in Sydney and then a few weeks mooching up and down the coast to visit friends.
  • The Focus needs rear discs (which are in the boot ready to fit) and a visit to the MOT shed down the road and it will have completed it's full overhaul this year (Suspension, engine, brakes, tyres and i even hoovered the interior), after the money i have spent (a fair bit more than it is worth) to get it back to the way i bought it i might as well use it.
  • Another extension on my S2k yearly mileage limit and my insurance will go up, currently i insure both for less than £550 with a few points on my licence, extending the S2k to more than 50% of my yearly mileage changes that a fair bit.
  • As great as it is to drive with the roof down all summer on every journey, considering most of my miles are M3, A316, M25, M40, M1 and M4 i do not feel i will be missing out on using it whilst slogging from one work site to another through winter.
  • I don't want to be adding 2000 miles a month to my new toy in st british weather.
  • If i drive one at a time the other one gets the TLC it deserves.
  • The Focus is the better option for winter, the S2k for summer.
And most importantly

  • i fking love my Focus, it's only a 10yo ST170, it is comfy, quick enough, entertaining to drive, practical, completely under the radar, will not need to see a mechanic for another year or two and it has a heated front windscreen.
Admittedly it is horrifically thirsty in traffic but it's also capable of returning 40+mpg at 80+mph which makes long journeys realativley easy.

It took me a couple of years longer than planned to get an S2K after i got rid of my old scooby, but if i had to go back to only having one car tomorrow it can assure you it would have 5 seats and 4 doors.
