They are starting to look good value second hand, £10-11k for low mileage examples and thinking it might be an interesting choice for a commuting car for the girlfriend, replacing an A1 tdi company car.

So some questions:-
Is 50mpg realistic?
what are they like to drive, road noise an issue?
are there any problems with the hybrid tech, baring in mind it would be out of warranty soon?

1 Yes 50mpg should be no problem
2 Brilliant chassis, not hugely fast but so bidable in the corners, not much road noise if you stay away from the optional 17"s
3 No major warranty issues with them at all, the hybrid warranty is 5 years/100,000 miles so you should be ok.

Highly recommended

Cheers.....Tony..

Hello!

I have had one for the past two and a half years and I love it!

I can only agree with what Tony said. Besides, it is a rare sight on the road so it is always enjoyable to see one.

Even if you push it hard you rarely go under 40mpg, on a quiet country roads you'll quickly find yourself in the 55-60 mpg zone. Having said that, commuting to work with a lot of traffic lights and 1-2 for the gearbox for about half and hour gives me an average of 42mpg, so it depends on the driving conditions as well. Road tax is £25 for 12 months.

The ride is comfortable but less so after two hours, and as it is a Honda I have never experienced any mechanical issue.

Overall it is a fun car to throw in a corner as it feels light and has a good amount of grip. The instant throttle response in sport mode is nice, and if in the mood you can take the engine to the red line with a decent noise. The dashboard design takes a bit to get used to (a lot of information on display), but once used to it it makes perfect sense. It's not the quickest but never really felt under-powered (at least in sport mode).

If you have any question, just ask!

Oh, about the GF, mine was not 100% convinced until she test drove one and found herself driving it to the limits with a big smile on her face.

I've had one for 3 years and 50mpg is the average over 38'000 miles. No reliability issues, the batteries are guaranteed for five years. I've got the GT Navigation version with comfort pack which makes for a relaxing drive in economy mode. Sport is quick until you run out of battery power, then it becomes slow and noisy!

I would certainly recommend one and I'll miss it when it goes later this month.

I know it's not for everyone, but if Honda did make the supercharged Mugen version available to buy (as a limited run of a few hundred) it would sell out.

In Japan they produced 350 Mugen RZ in 2012 - http://www.autocarzine.com/2012/10/2013-honda-cr-z...

and in the USA you can now order a HPD supercharged version: http://automobiles.honda.com/cr-z/hpd.aspx

but the UK seems to have gone cold on the hot version that was touted a wee while ago: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=23&...

does anyone know what the service intervals are?

Look on the Honda UK website under new cars, then servicing. It tells you that 12 months / 12,500 miles is the service interval for years one to three.

Thanks, I went to have look at one yesterday. I really love the looks, but as you say the service interval is 12,500 or 12 months, which might be a problem due to doing over 20k miles a year. As expected rear visability was dreadful but liked the quirky interior and even the boot space was better than expected.

my friend has one with a full mugen body kit so feel i can comment accurately having driven it quite a few times.

50mpg, depending on circumstances, easy. obviously if you are just doing town driving then probably not but on a motorway run it is perfectly doable.

to drive, they are brilliant. short wheelbase, nice steering feel in sport mode and good reaction to driver input. its not as communicative as a proper hot hatch, but it does well considering that it isn't aimed at that part of the market.

hybrid tech has no real failure issues. my friend had an ibiza cupra dsg before that and due to its constant failures is a lot more vigilant of cars with inherent issues than most.

I am the said "friend" rjkoneill is talking about.

As you can see my user name unfortuanly has "cupra" forever immortalised in it.

The CRZ is a great yet weird car. Mine is a sport spec with Genuine Mugen Aero Kit.

Average MPG is 37

A few home truths:

- it isn't as economical as Honda would let you believe
- it has no rear space

However it is:

- great fun to drive
- surprising quick
- very cheap to insure & tax

I've done over 14K in mine since Dec 2012 and still going strong.

Only mods to mine are:

- rota grids 16x7.0 with Yokohama AD08s
- second de-cat

I haven't RR'ed the car since the de-cat but the sound is improved and revs more urgently in the lower rev range.

Love the look of it!

@JackReacher
I bought a four year servicing for £500 upfront when buying the car, honestly it's been fine with me. Will have to change the front tyres this year and that will be my first running cost since March 2011 and 20,000 miles.

As it is very often driven enthusiastically they have started to seriously wear out. I'm sure they can handle a couple of additional thousand miles, but I just want to do it now.

I saw a white one the other morning, rare sight as you say, even rarer than a 350Z.

But I always wave my hand and often get a reply from the other driver when I see another one smile
