I know this is the S2000 Honda Page, and therefore there maybe some Bias posts. However I think most of can give honest opinions on certain brands they may have tried.
At present I have a totally minted S2000, a 2009 plate. Really do like the car for many reasons. However all the reading I have done about the 2009 engine issues, Kinda put a damp squib on my Experience. I have a warranty and I know this only affected small numbers having engine problems, however It is in the back of your mind.
I put the car up for sale to see what Interest I would get, and as I expected, enough, folk wanting to do a deal.
I am not home for 3 weeks, so have a bit of time to think also.

I have always wanted to scratch the Porsche Itch, and having the cash to do It just now, I am thinking this is a good opportunity. However I cannot help but think I have a 2009 S2K with 9k on the clock that is Minted and will always hold Its value well due to the low mileage.

So you can see the Predicament. Keep the S2K or Buy a 2009+ Boxster S? Head says Keep It, heart says go for the Porker while you have the money?

Hmmm...I think I would probably sell it and either get a cheaper, more used S2000 (so you can drive it and not worry about the 08/09 issue or putting miles on it) OR the boxster S

If you had of asked me three months ago it would have been the Boxster, now I'm not so sure but there's only one way to find out - go and drive one!

I am of the similar thought. Many months ago my first choice would have been Boxster, but now owning the S2K It is making It extremely difficult.
I would say the only thing that puts me of the Boxster Is It's Interior. I love the way everything is built around you in the Honda.

Just buy an 04-06 S2000? Boxster and S2000, while being comparable, the running costs are not. That's why I went for the s2000. Depends on your budget I guess, but I didn't fancy paying over double to run a car that is no better, purely because of it's badge wink

As Riknos has said, I would go for an 04-06 S2000, I had considered a Boxster S too but read a lot online about engine issues and left it.

Would I swap my 05 S2000 for a Boxster S?

It's tough....

The build quality is better in the Porsche, without doubt (well IMO anyway), and it's probably a slightly better cruiser. But then again, I'd say the smiles per miles value is greater in the S2000.

To get a Boxster S that I'd 'want', I'd have to spend a fair chunk more than my S2000 is worth, and I don't see it as being 'that' much better if that makes sense?

My next car will be a 987S (Box or Cayman), but for now, I want to have some fun in the S2000!

Hi

Please tell me more about the 2009 engine issues? I'm not aware of any and as I have a 2009 with just 31k on the clock this is slightly worrying..........

FYI, previously I had a 911 C2 and I loved every minute of it. The vario cam is awesome and comes on song at 4000-5000 RPM. when it does, its like an elastic band that shoots you off towards the horizon. Endless power from the bottom of the range (it will pull up hill in 6th gear at 30 mph) and when you change at the top end it leaps forward ready to go again. luxury car with great handling and you can drive it every day. awesome bit of kit!

When I first jumped in my S2000, it was like stepping back in time into an old classic car, however you do bond with the S2 and those quirks become rewarding and a characteristic of the car. I do love the car though, however I am a little scared of it where as with my RS4 and C2 you knew they were there to help you should you outstep your ability...........

I nearly bought a Cayman S instead of the S2, but my next car will be another 911. You can get a decent low mileage 997 coupe for around £25k now. Bargain!

Riding motorbikes and driving Porsche and Audi for the last 10 years............

I was going to buy an S2000 new in 2003, and haven't looked at them again till I bought one last year. I looked at 2006-8 cars and they had all got lots of owners and bigger miles, so my though process was buy the newest, cleanest example I can with low miles and the highest spec. Didn't research much other than that...........

Whats the crack? Is it that bad? do I need to sell when I get back from the Nurburgring next week?

If you have got to 31k, I reckon you have little to worry about.
A weak part would have shown by now, unless the car is being driven at low revs everywhere.
This is my take on it.

Well what did I do.
Yep, I sold the S2K, and for a tidy we profit. Picked up my exige on Sunday. Do I miss the honda, yeah a little. Loved the cabin, engine, looks, but that was about all.
So a short lived ownership, which was down to the fact that I wanted back in a lotus, and with the engine woes the 2009 cars have.
Small numbers, probably, but trying to sell an S2K on that's had an engine change, for known faults, ain't gonna be easy. So I made the choice to sell, while there is a good bit of money still in the car.
More than happy with the exige, 240 verouious horses under the hood, screaming to be thrashed.
