Sluggish Civic Changing and Going Through The Gears

Hi All

First post, save for brief intro, but it seems this is a familiar issue!

I have a 2008 1.8 i-Shift Honda Civic and I find that when changing gears it takes too long and also changes gears too soon generally, from 2nd to fifth in just over 10 mph!

Am planning to look at resetting the ECU to regulate it better but have also read that software updates are important to this.

Is there anyway I can check if software is up to date or can this only be done by Honda - Bit concerned as Honda charged someone on another forum £110 and could not notice a change: My Honda feels sluggish and slow at changing gears

There was a software update for this, I believe its about 20quid for an ECU update.
