Apart from the usual classifieds which are very good - are there any specific owners clubs etc to check out for an EP3? I have signed up to 'Type R Owners' and 'Civic Type-R' but my accounts haven't been confirmed so I'm unable to see if they even have a 'for sale' section.

I have a Toyota Auris that I'll be getting rid of so an ideal situation would be an Indy who would take my car almost in exchange. Failing that I'll have to sell and wait for a while..

Particularly I'm after a late 2005 or early 2006 EP3 Premier Edition, probably cosmic grey.

I have realised that the Insurance/Tax/Mpg are going to be the same for an EP3 as my MX5.. So the 5 might stay off the road for another year if I can find a nice Type-R.

Whilst I'm on the topic how do EP3's generally handle miles? Look to be quite a few 50-90k - is there anything to worry about over 100k with these?

The two forums you've mentioned do indeed have for sale sections, what you'll probably find though is much of the things on one site are for sale on the other, much is the way with single make forums really.

I've got exactly what you're looking for tongue out and I love mine, 06 plate premier in cosmic grey. I bought mine on 72k with a full service history and it's been fine with only a blowing exhaust as issues in the last year.

As for miles, as long as they are serviced, and the oils are changed (including gearbox oil) then they tend to be fairly bombproof, with only the gearboxes giving bother. I have a friend who has one on 120k FSH and generally well looked after, with like for like modifications his still has the legs on mine, old Hondas don't die, they just get faster tongue out

When you're test driving one if you can floor it in first, chances are it'll be difficult to get into second, this usually means a worn clutch but can also mean syncros in the gearbox are worn, similarly 2nd to 3rd may be difficult but this tends to point more to syncros AFAIK.

When you get one you need an induction kit of some sort, the first time you hear the crossover you'll fall in love!

I sold mine with 100,000 on the clock, no issues apart from a blowing exhuast, which was sorted with a 50p spring bolt. The gearbox on my car was fine. As above, get an induction kit on, you won't suddenly lose power due to heatsoak, and the noise is incredible. You won't get a better noise on 4 cylinders unless you buy a motorcycle.

Do your research and get a good one if you go this route, the Piper kit my EP3 came with went straight in the bin, absolute ste!

I assume you mean it had a Pipercross kit? The Viper and Venom kits iirc. I had a K&N Typhoon, no heatsoak for me, though I only drove it quickly, on open roads. That said, loss of power due to heatsoak because you are stuck in traffic is unlikely to be an issue, not least because you don't need 200bhp in a traffic jam, but also because it will clear very rapidly once you get up to speed.

From my time in EP3 circles, the kits I recall being liked were AEM short and long rams (watch out for puddles if you've got a long ram), Injen CAI, ARC, K&N Typhoon. The daddies were the Gruppe M and the Tegiwa, but they are expensive and don't sound as barmy.

I run an AEM CAI and it sounds so so glorious.

Yup, metal tube with an open foam element and a cold air feed. Had a similar kit on my ZS180 and it was fine (sounded great and ran ok), just don't think it works as well with the K20, sounded crap off the throttle and like a hoover at idle.

Gruppe-M/Tegiwa would be my choice if I had the spare cash, happy with the stock air-box though.

I swapped my 350z for a cosmic premier in March and loving it so far.

Thought I'd have to travel the country for one as there seemed to be none locally but then a low mileage one came up for sale within 2 weeks of looking.

It's a big change from the 350z but great fun and a lot more practical.

All this talk of induction kits has decided it for me! Going to go for a K&N or an AEM I think as the noise needs improving!

Still sounds crazy when in vtec though even standard.

Would definitely recommend one, although not the most refined car if that's what your after.

I'm finding that they really are great all rounder cars too, they cruise quite nicely at 70/80, they transport 4 people with ease and 2 dogs in the boot.... and then when you are on the way to work on a saturday morning with an empty B-road and an AEM under the bonnet you can wring their neck and make them scream!

I'm after one as well.

Seems no-one is interested in actually selling me one though. Spotted two via CTROC I fancied, one of which I *really* fancied. Both were in England, one in London, the other slightly further north.

Sent emails explaining that I'd be travelling from the west coast of Scotland and would like to be 100% clear on the car, asking the appropriate detailed questions.

Not a cheep in response frown

Can only assume that the sellers weren't confident in answering my questions.

I was wondering if people think the ep3's and the premier editions have bottomed out yet in depreciation?

Prices don't seem to have fallen much in the last few years as far as I can tell and decent premiers seem close to fn2's in

value.

Would be nice but I'm not that bothered either way!

In the last couple months I've seen the prices of mint condition premiers going up!

Being quite popular cars you think they'd be quite easy to sell, but when I sold mine I had absolutely loads of jokers and morons ringing me up. I had a few promising enquiries from people who seemed really interested in the car, very keen to view, then asking how far Newcastle is from London, and then realising it was the other end of the country before backing out. Not before I'd answered all of their questions and queries though!

I'd happily travel for the right car, I have done in the past - west coast of Scotland to Burgess Hill for an MX5!

Civics seem to be holding pretty good money i bought mine with a couple of issues for 2k on 02 plate you should join civictype-r.co.uk a few usually some come up on there or e-bay of course.

Tbh i was a turbo man and still am its just i've found the CTR more economical to run as u have the option of using VTEC and it does sound mental with a good induction kit and decent back box, although i wouldn't use a unslienced centre pipe as its far too loud unless of course u like it loud lol

Out of interest. What would people's opinion be on the value of an ep3 premier edition. Black with aircon. Completely Standard, full honda service history 73,000 be worth?

From what I've seen they're going for anything from £5000-6500.

Thanks for the comments.

I have looked at the exact car I am looking that is pretty local. Everything is clean and all appears good but the drivers rear quarter has been painted. I had a look and there isn't any sign of a big impact underneath (at a quick look), although I did spot a part number on the drivers/rear control arm so it needs some more inspection to make sure it hasn't been hit.

What were the issues you had?

I'm looking to buy one for £2500 - £3000, was wondering if I could get a decent 2002/2003 in silver. I'd put aside about £500 for some lowering springs, geometry setup and a good service!

Thanks
