I seem to recall several Audi R8 mules catching fire at the ring too...

Better they find and fix the weaknesses in testing rather than going all 458 on us.

Guessing that the Ring put to many rapid charge/discharge cycles on the battery causing it to overheat and catch fire.

Well…it IS a prototype and they do go wrong. Much better to understand it during the development period, ( an even after that, as we know, there is still potential for a problem)

Sounds a bit tame, hope the production cars have a better exhaust note.

An insider over on vtec.net claims the fire was the result of a fuel leak. Also on the exhaust note, it's been heavily modified/muffled as Honda wants to hide as much as possible before full release.

On one of the vids of the mule, there's a chasing 458 Italia, by all accounts, it cannot keep pace out of the corners.

I look forward to the full reveal as this promises to be a special car, some are talking 918 Ring lap times!! Again from an insider on vtec.net

There are very few cars that I am really looking forward to seeing, but this is one. I may well put down a deposit once the final car is revealed and pricing is known.

I heard that Honda have had a lot of trouble getting the setup working. Apparently the engine was originally going to be NA but will now be turbocharged. The torque vectoring stuff is cutting edge but depletes batteries fast and they have had to solve that too.

I wonder whether this fire will set back the development schedule.
