Only for the awkward bits - John Deere all the way - usually averages about 10mpg I think driving

The quality of Honda engineering is legendary. I have variously heard of Honda engines being so utterly reliable as to be virtually indestructible if maintained. However Hondas have never been very good in the consumption stakes and the 4x4 Hondas are particularly thirsty. 25 mpg would be a good average I suspect. Up to the OP as we all know the overall cost of ownership is not just about fuel. Various Freelanders I have had have been excellent on fuel but horrendous on maintenance costs. Honda would never have allowed the K series engine to be designed as it was. Good on fuel but crucifying on repair costs every few months. Best of luck with your Honda.

These cars are not good on petrol. Honda have always favoured reliability and running on richer mixtures which offers much better valve life than super low petrol consumption. I have had both Honda CRV + HRV's over the years and a number of K series Freelanders. The Honda is in a different league in reliability terms. But the K series will offer as much as 40 mpg when running. These cars are not light on fuel and you will be unlikely to better 25mpg.
