honda jazz cat issues

Apparently generic catalytic converters are not compatible with Honda Jazz and yet a garage (chain) removed my Honda cat and replaced it with another (cheaper) make. It now does not pass emissions test. Part under warantee but garage will not replace with one that works .... as it costs much more (approx £330 as opposed to over £1k for genuine part). Any advice would be much appreciated.
The garage that sold you the cat should've (IMO), ensured that the cat was up to standard and was MOT passable. What was the point in replacing it then if it's not??
Could there be other underlying factors? What fuel are you using, is servicing up to scratch?? Any dash lights, nay O2 sensors changed or possibly need to be changed?
