70 mile commute in a hot hatch is going to make some fuel bills, and when think back, I would not have wanted to do a 70 mile commute in my Type R either, that would have gotten old pretty fast.

As has already been said, 70mph is 3500rpm in sixth and its really not an issue as its not a particularly loud engine until it gets going (5000+rpm) at which point the induction noise takes over. I did a similar commute in my 2003 ep3 for 7 months and it was great. The car doesnt mind chugging along with the flow of traffic or really pushing it if I went the long way home. Regular oil checks are needed as most tend to drink a little (mine uses a dribble between services, maybe a quarter of a litre).

Reliability has been great, mine is always taken to TGM in fleet (very popular in the honda scene), parts are relatively cheap (unless going for big n/a power, but at 19 I imagine it already has plenty). It has never let me down.

Ultimately, I would recommend it, mine will be going in a month or two purely as I fancy a e46 M3 and dont need the hatchback practicality of the ep3 anymore.

Yeah, but hadn't you modified yours and made it a lot noisier?

I've heard the vtec will stop working unless you use it...is this true? If it is I'd obviously have to make sure this didn't happen and use it for him!
