Hi, as some of you may have noticed I decided on an S2000 a while back for my next car but have been waiting for the right one. I'm looking for a 2004 model as the updates appeal to me along with the cheaper tax.

I've seen an S2000 for sale now that is a 2003 model in Oxfordshire. My understanding was this car wouldn't be the updated version with the chassis revisions etc but the seller states it is by saying (wrongly I know) that it's an AP2.

Could anyone offer any clarity for me as the when the revisions came in and what to look for to be sure this car has them as this car seems perfect otherwise! Any help appreciated.

dont know if this helps

First generation (AP1, 1999–2003)
Honda S2000 (AP1)
Overview
Production 1999–2003
Assembly Takanezawa R&D Plant in Tochigi, Japan

The S2000 was introduced in 1999 for the 2000 model year and was given the chassis designation of AP1. It featured a front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with power being delivered by a 1,997 cc (122 cu in) inline 4-cylinder DOHC-VTEC engine. The engine (codenamed F20C) produced outputs of 177–184 kW (237–247 hp), and 208–218 N·m (153–161 lbf·ft) depending on the target market.[5] The engine was mated to a six-speed manual transmission and Torsen limited slip differential. The S2000 achieved what Honda claimed as "the world's top level, high performance 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine".[6]

hers some information on the AP2

Second generation known as AP2, and in Europe as AP1 Facelift, 2004–2009
Honda S2000
HondaS2000-007.jpg
Overview
Production 2004–2009
Assembly Suzuka R&D Plant in Suzuka, Mie, Japan

The 2004 model S2000 underwent several significant changes. Production of the S2000 moved to Suzuka. The new model introduced 17 in (43 cm) wheels and Bridgestone RE-050 tires along with a retuned suspension to reduce oversteer. The spring rates and shock absorber damping were altered and the suspension geometry modified to improve stability by reducing toe-in changes under cornering loads. The subframe has also received a revision in design to achieve a high rigidity. In the gearbox the brass synchronizers were replaced with carbon fiber. In addition, cosmetic changes were made to the exterior with new front and rear bumpers, revised headlight assemblies, new LED tail-lights, and oval-tipped exhausts. Although all the cosmetic, suspension and most drivetrain upgrades were included on the Japanese and European S2000s, they retained the 2.0l F20C engine and remained designated as an AP1.

All European S2000's are AP1.

Is it a private sale?

Repeat: All European cars are AP1. Post 2004 they had revised suspension, engine map, different front bumper/airdam and 17" wheels. They are AP1 "facelift".

As far as I am aware, AP2 refers to later American market models, which had a 2.2 litre engine.

Thanks guys, so there is chance it's the revised model but at the very end of the MY2003. The fact the add states 16 Inch wheels possibly says it's not a revised model though so I'm still in the dark!

This is the add....

I know things can be changed but id be tempted to say its a pre facelift.
Im not a massive expert on this but the reason I think this is

-It has a pre facelift front bumper, the facelift has recesses at the bottom ignore the front splitter but see the link http://www.gotuning.com/images/products/Downforce_...
- As you say it has the 16 inch alloys.
-The front and rear light clusters are all pre facelift aswell
- The exhausts also are rounded and not the oval shape you get on the facelift
-If you go to see it im pretty sure the pre facelift is black roughly where your forearm would be if resting it on the center section. I think on the facelift this is silver. Again im not 100% on this.
- I cant tell from the photos but also the rear window should be glass on the facelift but this may have been an earlier revision before 2004.

Hope that helps a bit, I may have got some of those wrong and am happy to be corrected but this is what I have found when looking around. Most people say it and id probably agree that 2004-2006 is the sweet spot.

Thanks for all the help guys. Invaluable! Yes I've seen the car and it appears because it has a glass rear screen the seller thinks it's a facelift but it isn't. I assunme its just had a new hood and rear screen at some point.

The search continues!

It seems we are both in the market for the same car. I have actually been to see the car in question and am 99% sure it's a MY2002.

I didn't buy it though, bit of a wasted journey really. I'm finding that a lot of dealers are advertising S2000's as FSH when they are usually anything but.
