Evening all,

I've been considering what to replace my XJ8 with next year and I was quite satisfied that I'd found the right answer in a hybrid car. I know, they're not terribly PH but it'd suit my commuting and day to day needs far better than a miserable diesel would, and I get all the fun and performance I need from my Daytona anyway...

So, I was quite content that come the start of next year, I'd take the Jag up to it's next MOT and then probably scrap it or flog it for spares and repairs, and replace it with a used Hybrid of some sort. The front runners were the Insight and the Prius. That'd be a mk2 of both cars (I really want a first generation Insight but two seaters are a no go). The CRZ is a another contender, but pushed back slightly because it's a little less preactical and generally seems more expensive used than the Insight and the Prius.

However, I hadn't really thought of the Civic Hybrid. Not having really researched it, it struck me as a bit of an afterthought because it just seemed like a Civic with the IMA powertrain dropped in. However, on looking at them used, they generally come with a decent spec (leather seats would be nice, if I could get them). They're a little older than the Insight, comparable to some of the Prius I've looked at but can be had for little money with low mileages. Typically, between £5000-£6000 could net one with around 40,000 miles on, less if you looked hard enough.

Does anyone have experience of driving one, or living with one? I'm guessing they'll be pretty naff to drive, but I'd hope for decent reliability and reasonable servicing costs. Are they good enough to consider alongside the purpose built hybrids?

This is the type I'm thinking of:
