A group of us have an entry into the 24 hour of LeMons, running in Sydney in October of this year. The idea is to have a load of fun with your mates in a car that cost less than $1,000 aussie dollars. So you have to buy a car, fix anything you need to to make it reliable and make it go as fast as you can. The budget for safety gear is outside this (roll cage, brakes, seat, harnesses etc). Info here for those interested: http://24hoursoflemons.com.au/

Well, earlier this week we bought our car; a 1994, Honda Prelude VTi-R, manual, with the H22A engine for the princely sum of $350 from a salvage yard (it's an insurance write-off, but only some cosmetic panel damage on the rear 1/4). We lucked out, in that is already has some Tien adjustable coilovers on it, a Whiteline rear ARB and Cusco front and rear strut braces.

The car is being checked over and seems very good. Holds good compression in each cylinder, gearbox works well; everything seems surprisingly good.

A fair amount of our remaining budget ($650) will go on things like cooling, maybe an alternator rebuild, hoses etc. It doesn't seem to need CV joins or wheel bearings, but we'll do those if we need to.

My question to you folks is with the equivalent of couple of hundred quid, is there a way to get more power out of a H22A? We will be de-catting is (assuming it has one?) and it already has an exhaust. Do we stick to the stock air intake and is it worth putting the Accord Type-R headers on it? Ideas welcome.
