We're replacing a gradually more costly 02 Honda Jazz, and are probably looking to spend £3-5k on a newer used Jazz. Mainly 30 minutes commuting each way, shopping trips, and the odd 500-mile trip a few times a year.

Would you go for a newer car with more miles, or an older car with less miles? Or does it depend on current condition and how well it's been looked after?

This is what Autotrader has in our area - any that jump out at you? I'm wary of buying anything older than 2010 but I'm not sure why.....

I'd be looking at something like this. My wife's Jazz is a 2009 1.4 EX with 36,000 miles on (or there abouts) and has been 100% reliable.

I'd offer him less than his asking (WBAC will give you a rough trade value of it) and see if he bites.

There's a nice 2010 EX for sale near me with around 50,000 miles for £4400 (EX gets you cruise, climate, panoramic roof etc) in red but it's a fair trek from Glasgow....

Thanks for the push to go private, have been shackled to looking at dealerships until now.

Offered the asking on that car as it had full service history and money invested in getting it tip-top for sale, so it seemed like a fair price. And now the colour of our car matches our garden shed. smile

Excellent.

They're great little cars. I offered to swap my wife's for a Civic/Golf etc but she didn't want to part with her Jazz.
