Hello guys and gals,

I'm looking at going to view a 57 Civic with rather high mileage on at 142k, it's reasonably priced imo, has most service history and has had a new clutch and dmf fitted, it has a towbar fitted so it's obviously lugged something around in it's lifetime,
Just looking for a bit of advice eg would the high mileage put you off? Is there a chance the dmf could go again?
Cheers

Not had many responses here but if its still useful between me and my mrs we've had a 57 plate 2.2 ES from new. Only problem we ever had was the clutch at 70k miles, it didn't need a dmf as we caught it early enough - total cost from Honda main dealer ~£450 which you'll struggle to find cheaper from an indy with genuine parts. We sold it at about 95k miles though but only because she wanted a new car and I wanted her 2.2 CRV with the big boot for towing / DIY duties. If I hadn't needed the CRV for towing I'd have happily kept it until it died as it was a cracking car, very good allrounder - loads of space, rather quick (sub 9s to 60), comfy and could get a genuine 50+mpg on the motorway without trying too hard, and even driving hard would give 45mpg. Pain in the ass to work on yourself though as the engine bay is VERY cramped, so I left it up to the dealers when normally I'd be getting my hands dirty.

At that mileage I'd expect to be paying for at least another clutch and maybe a few suspension things like shocks. If you have a £1K slush fund for it you could pick a winner. With regard to towing bear in mind that the 2.2 civic has a rather high towing limit, something silly like 1600kg on a 1600kg fwd car. I suspect due to the very torquey engine plus a strong structure.

Check if the manifold has cracked, they suffer from this, you'll smell the exhaust in the cabin. Also these cars suffer from cabin ratltles with age.
