My wife needs something cheaper to run and there is a 2009 civic 2.2 diesel down the road for sale but it has 90k miles. Should this mileage concern me if the price is right? Wife probably does 10k a year. I'm normally not keen on high mileage but as its a diesel I don't suppose that is high. Are there any known problems with this car/engine? Thanks

at that age its likely a cdti model so you wont have dpf which is a good thing.
regular servicing would be what you are looking for. if well serviced the engine should be running fine and should provide more mileage. these are chain driven engines if i remember correctly so listen for any knocks etc and perhaps check if tensioner has been replaced.
other things to look for is knocks from suspension likely the arb's these cars can go through them. usual things like sticky calipers etc.
if a clean looked after civic it will do your job all day long ... but at 10k per annum personally i would opt for the petrol model ... they are very fuel efficient and engines are bullet proof ... our old 1.8 returned 45mpg easily

I think there’s a slight problem on the 2.2, with the clutch adjuster not adjusting fast enough after heavy use of the clutch, resulting in clutch slip. If you avoid ragging the clutch too much, for a period of time thereafter, it corrects itself. Just what I read somewhere, maybe someone can verify.
