Been looking again at S2000s and they prices vary wildly, from around £7-8K for something circa 2002/03 with 60/70K miles or more to over £10K for something more recent with lower miles.

Prices have risen a bit, but how much would you spend on a decent S2000 this year? Should £7-8K be enough to secure something decent which has been cared for?

We have an 06 plate with less than 15k miles. It's worth more to us than selling it.

Wow... 1.5K miles a year ... thats low - my 56 plate is hovering around 70K paid 8K for it from a main dealer 2 years ago - don't think I will have lost anything on it if I were to sell - but it's a keeper.

Depends entirely what age/spec you're after - The 'sweet spot' facelifts with the lower tax band [Belive it's 04-55 plates with a few 06's] seem to always be holding value... Especially in the run up to summer!

I'll be listing mine on Pistonheads soon if the for sale part allows me to - Tried twice now without success!

Same as the poster above though, owned mine 2 years after buying from a dealer and seems to be worth similar money still...

Based on what I am seeing on Autotrader and Ebay at the moment, I suspect your car is probably worth a grand more than you paid for it now.

Honda S2000 prices have definitely risen in the last year or so....The only cars now for sale at £5K, are CAT D damaged repaired cars...2-3 years ago that wasn't the case....

I am currently watching an ebay auction for a 2003 car down the road from me, with low miles (57K). It is making £6100 on its first day of auction with 9 to go, so I suspect it will break the £7.5K barrier easily enough....

Once we get to April/May I think the prices will inevitably go up, a few have been written off over the winter so demand will outstrip supply. The thing is people are cottoning on to these cars, they are not particularly fast or great handling cars BUT they do have that magic ingredient of desirability and they are a great drivers car, you do have to drive them properly and not simply throw it at a corner and let the car rescue you, people like that.

Cheers.....Tony.

Picked up a 2004 with 110k miles for euro equivilant of £5500 last April. Equated to €7800 at the time.

High miles but mint. I think she's a keeper as I'm sticking huge miles on her!

Another question, is it worth paying extra for an approved Honda car?

I.e

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Nice looking car but at least £1000 dearer than current cars for sale on the net with similar miles and that age...

Also, this one popped up today with nice low miles, but £8K....shows how they have risen in value...I have always liked the blue...

Some Honda dealerships have absolutely no idea what an S2000 is or what to do with it, so it really depends regarding their approved scheme...

And for what its worth, I think the blue you've linked has historically sold for a bit less than any other colour as it's in high supply but lower demand [It's called lady boy blue on S2000 forums!]

Yeah if you're happy with that blue you'll definitely save yourself a few quid smile

I bought mine used approved. Only because a very good condition low mileage one came up at a dealer I'd used previously, otherwise I'd happily have bought one of these privately.

Values will no doubt start picking up as summer approaches. WBAC quoted me £13k last June for my 2007 26k mile car smile

...so putting aside the colour (and I actually love that blue), does that look like a dear car, or reasonably priced one? There is another one at a dealer not too far from me on both ebay and Autotrader in the same "ladyboy blue", 69K miles, £6995. Both have hard tops which appeals as I don't have a garage and this winter has taken its toll on my current MX-5....the rain has been severe enough to get through the soft-top roof seal on a couple of occasions...

It's tough to give you advice really. You'd be buying the pre facelift model, in the least desired colour, even if that is the one that appeals to you the most.

Basically I would be worried about offloading it quickly when you come to sell, but if you were intending to keep it for a while then you shouldn't have any worries, just give it a test drive!

In honesty the fact you found out it was called ladyboy blue and that isn't putting you off probably means its the car for you! smile

did laugh at the comment about "ladyboy blue". Not being a current or previous S2000 owner or having been on any Honda forums, I had no idea it was given this name and frankly I doubt if 99% of the general car buying public do either! ALL l I know is that my brother in law had this very model when new, in this colour, 02 reg, which I drove and was impressed with and he says he preferred to his subsequent 987 Boxster S....

I really don't think the colour will affect re-sale prices a few years down the road......! It isn't a more desirable post facelift model, but I reckon that's why it is cheaper now...

  • EDIT, this is all academic now as the ladyboy blue car has sold...was only on the net for a day.. poo...I rather liked it and was hoping to see it tomorrow as I coincidently I was travelling up to Saltford, just down the road from the dealer selling it....Must try and find another now...where are they all?!

Nurburgring blue was my favourite colour. Is the insurance still crazy high for these cars? Also do you still need to have the trailing arm bolts checked for rust or am I thinking another car lol?

I changed my EP3 for an 08 plate S2000 just after Christmas. The Honda dealership wanted 12.5k but in the end paid 12k for it. 64k on the clock, moonrock grey (sounds dull but looks great in real life), GT model. The car was in great condition, lovely and clean, engine bay looked like it just came out of the factory. I think prices are going up as I was keeping an eye on them late last year.

If you're serious about it, get one now ready for the spring/summer. They're rare cars to see on the road, and people will notice them, especially when you put the hammer down and the engine starts singing.

Insurance depends entirely on the age of the driver, and whether or not the car has been modified. Bear in mind that as S2000's are climbing in value, even if the insurance sounds a bit steep, the overall cost of ownership will still be reasonable as a result.

The S2000 does not have trailing arms. It does, however, have double wishbones on each corner, each of which has three adjusters. And caster adjusters. All of which need to be free, and adjusted properly as the car is very sensitive to suspension setup, and tyres, which should have stiff sidewalls.

Head over to S2KI and have a good read.

GreenArrow - check email regarding my 2002 S2000 GT.

Agreed regarding tyres and setup - tyres made a marked difference for me.

Would and did, always buy on condition and care. I took a lot of time before buying mine to be sure of this, there were quite a few rough ones around.

If buying privately, owner should be clued up with the common maintenance requirements and age related work - e.g valve clearances, tensioner, regular fluid checks & rear calipers binding.
