Where's my oil going?

It's a mystery.
2.4 Type S, 13 years old and 125K on the clock.
No leaks, no smoke, no knocks or rattles. Still runs very smooth and pulls well. Yet, I have just put in 2 litres of oil, Also put 2 litres in it about 6 months ago, since when we have done no more than 5K miles!
Any ideas? Do I need to trade it in before it pops?

ETA: We have had it from new, so it's never been thrashed or abused
