Hello guys, got a type r a few weeks ago and as the honey moon period is over, Ive noticed a few things on the car id like to improve, first of which, the noise.

Coming from a straight 6 bmw (330i) I am very happy with the honda, true monster of a car, the way it goes around corners and the power delivery is brilliant compared to the heavy bmw but I cant stand the noise, I want it to sound deeper at low revs but not too loud where old ladies look at me with disgust as i drive past at 20mph, the car sounds no different to a 1.4 civic in a traffic jam! What were honda thinking?!

I had a look around on the forums before I posted a thread but found different answers.

In the bmw (standard exhaust), sometimes id leave it in gear and hear muffled pops from the exhaust, really nice satisfying noise and I want it on my civic, not necessarily the same noise as theyre different cars but something similar! Any ideas on what exhaust I need?

Also if someone can explain why some cars do that and some dont?

Thanks

Part of Honda's thinking was that it should be exactly the same as a 1.4 Civic until it shouldn't be.

The more you can resist the the temptation to deviate from standard, the better!

There are sooo many options out there, it is all going to be personal preference. Get on YouTube and have a listen to a few to give you an idea. If you want a really raspy note then an un-silenced B pipe is a good and cheap option. The Mugen Twin Loop is good but mega £££, Spoon N1 another good one but very loud, Fujitsubo do one that looks OEM but again very expensive.

Be careful which you choose. Theres a guy at the end of my street that put one in his CTR a couple of years ago and it sounds so loud and st. He obviously has yet to realise that everyone thinks it sounds fking st and it is so damned annoying to hear at 6am. Can hear him coming a mile away and its really not a nice sound at all.

Thanks for that, well, the car is actually tempoary, I probably won't have it after christmas, saving for a M135i so I dont really want to spend more than 150 pounds, l actually never intended to buy a type r, was after a cheap runaround for a grand and saw my one pop up for 1500, 140k milss though but I heard theyre bullet proof

Anyways I found this on ebay, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291792925591

What you reckon?

hahahahahah noo I do not want it to be loud at all, just want it to have a deeper sound so it sounds like the performance car that it is, I got used to the BMW, everytime I start it, I know I'm in a 230 horsepower car, the honda sounds like my sisters 1.5 swift in the mornings lol

I'd definetly try the Fujitsubo RM01a or the Toda racing exhaust. I've got the Toda on my DC5 Integra which gives a nice deep tone, but it doesn't droan.
I'd get yourself either a 2nd hand Gruppe M or a Tegiwa Carbon airbox which is a replica of the Gruppe M.

http://www.tegiwaimports.com/select-car/honda/ep/i... Replca Intake.

http://www.tegiwaimports.com/select-car/honda/ep/e... ( this is also a replica of a Fujitsubo RM01a.)

It's worth looking on the owners forum, as lots of people sell 2nd hand parts.

Hope that helps a little.

Have you heard any videos of the unsilenced B pipe? There are a few on YouTube. The note it creates with an OEM back box is a bit marmite, I love it though.
