Afternoon! My younger brother has threw a conrod in his type r and put a nice hole in block. Thought these engines were bullet proof. So can anyone suggest a decent place for a re-con engine?? I'm going to be tasked to fit it so any help would be great.

Did he overspeed it with a downshift?

He's told me he dropped it from 5th to 4th. I rekon he has buzzed it.

Yep, sounds like it. As you say, they're tough engines, but there are limits! Does seem to happen more with engines that are high-revving to begin with - I think the forces involved scale with the square of revs, which might have something to do with it, or maybe they're just closer to the edge to begin with.

Wonder if he went for fourth and got second?

I did wonder but he's adamant that he went 5th to 4th. I've blown engines up in past during my racing days, cooked rings and spinning bottom ends but I've never put a hole in the block, at least he's done it properly I suppose.

So can anyone recommend companies that deal in trusting 2nd hand motors or re-conditioned??

Ouch. Takes some doing!!

You could try R-motion www.r-motion.co.uk

Or Integrastella is a well known type r breaker on eBay.

After digging a bit further it doesn't look like its thrown a rod. After looking at the bits in the engine it looks like a piston has let go in quite a big way. Whoops.

Up date. It's looking like conrod. The bits that come out of the engine were more piston bits.
