Civic Type R EP3
Discussion
I owned a Black Ep3 pre facelift for 9 years , and when we sold it , i missed it so much that eventually i purchased another. This is the Premier edition with all the fancy bits.
I would say avoid anything thats been messed around with. It will never match your requirements and you'll need to spend money to revert it back to original .
I have bought a few bits for mine , it was/is standard , 7 owners , full Honda History and no damage.
i am slowly bringing back up to the standard i am happy with. The steerings not bad , to be honest i can hardly tell the difference between the earlier Ep3 and this. Maybe less notchy.
Cpl lowered the vtec band and raised the limiter. It now revs hard aaaall the way. I love it.

I've had my Premier Edition Cosmic Grey EP3 for almost a year now. Its covered 47k miles and great fun to drive, bought from Honda dealer. All I would say is buy on condition and look at the service history closely. Avoid cars that have been heavily mod'ed and show signs of having a hard life. Engines are solid, so long as they are maintained *esp oil level. Good luck!
So after a few weeks of looking at some good-uns, some rotters, and dealing with a couple of questionable dealers (one of which told me he could fix the big scratches on the bumper for £20, easy, but he left them on for "originality") I finally found one and bought my first hot hatch. It's got a couple of very minor scratches and the alloys need refurbing (in white I reckon) but at only 66k miles I think I found a gem. Only had it for 2 days but so far it's great! (picture looks a bit pink but the paintwork is bright as day)

So, it's been a year. How's EP3 ownership gone?? I'm looking for EP3 inspiration. Seriously considering one as a dedicated track car (and make it a project). Nice / looked after ones seems a bit rare.... or come at a big price.
Really good, thanks. Mine is/was a little tired in places - its done over 100k and some of those must, I assume, have been fairly hard miles - but I wanted a black 30th anniversary and they only made 100 so I would have had a long wait to find a perfect one.
Nothing major - it needed a new clutch after the last event, and new pads and new front disks. I've done 3 or 4 sprints and finished second in class twice by fractions of a second. Both to the same Clio 200 when the brakes were very tired so it clearly has the capacity to win at a regional level. Also took part in a national round, with very tired brakes and was a long way (2 seconds per lap) off the winner's pace (Integra), more than the brakes would account for, though he was a successful competitor so no doubt faster than me too. Bushes will be needed next.
It behaves very well on the circuit and I never worry that it might go wrong. Mine's standard but there are lots of things you can do to them and lots of advice out there. Steering always going to be a bit weird but you don't notice on track, only going slowly on the road.
Alarm a bit funny if left for a long time but doesn't seem to be a problem on the trickle charger.
I'd recommend one.

Ownership for me is also great. Living in the South East it's a great car just drive to work in whilst feeling like a regular civic, then opening up on the weekend - the vtec is indescribably good, it never gets old. I'm lucky enough to have been in many of the newest hot hatches including the new civics but I'm certain the ep3 has the best engine - only bettered by the s2000 which is of course a different type of car all together.
My only gripe would be the turning circle and hard steering at low speed makes it sometimes hard to maneuver.... But otherwise I'm not sure what I'd rather have at this price range! No mechanical or electrical gripes and a clean MOT too. Got my eye on the latest model now.
